Rep. Charles Rangel got Mississippi burning by asking "who in the hell" would live there, and then offered a New York-centric defense yesterday:
"I just love New York so much that I can't understand why everyone wouldn't want to live here," the Harlem congressman said.
But a Mississippi politician said that wasn't good enough and demanded a formal apology.
"I hope his remarks are not the kind of insults, slander and defamation that Mississippians will come to expect from the Democrat leadership in Washington, D.C.," fumed Rep. Charles (Chip) Pickering (R-Miss.).
In an interview Thursday, Rangel said, "Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who in the hell wants to live in Mississippi?"
Rangel, who is taking over as chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, also told The New York Times that his hometown deserves a bigger piece of the federal pie.
"I didn't mean to offend anyone," Rangel said yesterday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. Rangel was traveling in Panama and could not be reached to find out if he plans to apologize.
Another Mississippi congressman, Gene Taylor, said Rangel was engaging in Big Apple blather and laughed off Pickering's kvetching. "That's Chip," he said

Easily... the REPUBLICANS have to actually run an opponent against him... and fund that opponent. The man that has run against him 4 times says he does it so people will have a choice. No GOP money and no campaigning.
Taylor the YELLOW DOG, has Values Voter problems that are well hidden also.

"I hope his remarks are not the kind of insults, slander and defamation that Mississippians will come to expect from the Democrat leadership in Washington, D.C.," fumed Rep. Charles (Chip) Pickering (R-Miss.). That will be standard operating procedure for the entire duration of Democrat leadership in Washington. They have no shame, and will slander or defame every Republican they can at any time.

The phrase "I didn't mean to offend anyone," is not an apology. Yes. As long as he doesn't regret what he said, it's not an apology. "I didn't mean to offend anyone" is not an apology, just as "I regret it offended someone" isn't.

Grisham is not fit to be in the same post as Faulkner. At least you could put up Bob "My Ex-Wife Did What?" Pittman.

Except for brief interludes in L.A., New Orleans, Europe, etc. Faulkner barely left the place.
