Nov. 9, 2006 - Until recently Lisa Greening didnt know a stem cell from a jail cell. But earlier this year, the bookstore owner from University City, Mo., spotted a new hardback by her former U.S. senator, John Danforth, titled Faith and Politics in which he bemoans the influence of evangelical Christians on the GOP and the country. Greening, 36, went on to see Danforth speak and emerged incensed by what she considered the religious rights distortions on the issue of embryonic stem-cell research. The extreme right is going around scaring people that [scientists] are going to steal womens embryos, she says. Thats preposterous. So on Tuesday, she endured a tedious, two-hour line at her local polling station for two reasons: to cast a ballot for the Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill, who supports stem-cell research, and to vote in favor of a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would protect such research.
[snip]
Though the stem-cell fight was as much a squeaker as the Senate race, the divide between McCaskill and Talent supporters didnt coincide exactly with the one among amendment supporters and opponents. The stem-cell issue created fissures among both Democrats and Republicans. The former, for instance, split between liberal pro-choicers and Catholic pro-lifers, while the latter broke between social conservatives and business-oriented conservatives who see economic potential in cutting-edge research. According to turnout figures, many counties outside Missouris urban centers showed slightly more support for the stem-cell amendment than for McCaskill. Which for Rubin signals that theres still a bipartisan aspect to stem cell research. Missouri Right to Lifes Patty Skain, however, argues that the more voters become educated about such research, the more theyll resist it.

That's not what anyone on the pro-life side has said, you ignorant moron (the woman, not you, madprof).
I found this interesting. University City is 10 minutes away and VERY liberal. In my little suburb, very conservative, it took 10 minutes to vote, only 5 of it waiting for the next machine available and our turnout was as heavy as 04 when I didn't have to wait either. And I would love to know how many students voted in U City and by absentee in their home states.
A "Whisker" is eighteenth century slang for a lie.
This is news to me. If only we had journalists who would treat every supposed fact they hear in the course of writing a story equally. Every word out of a Republican's mouth is examined in microscopic detail; someone like this is allowed to say such a lie in the name of letting her speak, and thus the lie is perpetuated and the journalist can say "I didn't necessarily agree, it was just her opinion."
And now thousands will be saying "The right wing claims..." And thus another political urban myth is born.
Morality aside, I think Talent should have accused the Dems of being in the pocket of "Big Biotech" - who want only to get their hands on government funding (your tax dollars) just as they are in the pocket of Trial Lawyers who have put the kibosh on any meaningful tort reform. Maybe lib women who will readily part with their embryos will think twice about funding "big business".
Not educating the public about this is a failing of the Republican party. They cannot wait for MSM newspapers or TV to actually explain the facts. The MSM is in the propaganda business these days. Two years from now when ESC research still has zero treatments and nonESC treatments are even greater than they are today, perhaps we will do a better job. Right now most people have no idea of the facts.
Lisa Greening is a prime example of someone too stupid to actually seek information on the issue, swallowing the democrat lies and media lies, showing her stupidity with inane comments, and voting the way she's directed to vote. The best democrat profile possible and one that will eventually murder more than just unborn children and embryo aged humans. Lisa Greening is the ignorant face of what supports and uphold democrats. And she is probably proud of her stupidity, she certainly sounds like it.
"Maybe lib women who will readily part with their embryos will think twice about funding "big business"." To which 'embryos' do you refer? Are you trying to address the harvesting of ova to conceive embryos in vitro, or are you referring to in vitro embryos sent to research rpograms?
Missouri voters embraced clone and kill ... their neighbors in Kansas embraced the serialized partial birth murder of alive unborn children. What's in the water out there?
Opponents of embryonic stem cell research simply ignore advances in that field, and then proceed to claim that there aren't any.
Japanese researchers create artificial liver from [embryonic] stem cells

Danforth ping.
What most do not realize in the embryonic stem cell debate is the codicil of cloning that will be ushered in with the embrace of cannibalizing embryo-aged humans. Embryos are already differentiating their cells to form the placental encapsulation and the inner cell mass for building the body for life in the air world. This and their genetic imprint makes embryos growing human beings, albeit very young human beings. Harvesting and killing them for their body parts (their stem cells) is cannibalism.
But the American people have gradually been herded into accepting the evil through tolerance of the abortion slaughter of tens-of-millions of alive unborn human children and the dehumanizing process called in vitro fertilization, which makes commodities out of embryo-aged humans and which humans are now in the sights of the embryo stem cell researchers and defended by such posters as Government Shrinker. To these people, the embryo-aged humans are tissue commodities, not humans at their earliest age.
Ignorance of the facts is the best ally of the dead-souled promoters of cannibalizing embryos. If you would like more on stem cells, in layman's terms, HERE'S a link to a free manuscript for downloading that explaines in simple language what are stem cells, the methods of harvesting stem cells from our bodies and from embryo-aged humans, cloning, and the current research goals of clone and kill 'therapeutic cloning'.
I think we were deceived by the notion that we had elected a "pro-life" Congress and "pro-life" legislatures and therefore we were entering a "pro-life" era in the USA. Obviously, the Culture of Death is alive and well in Red America, including the heartland of Kansas and Missouri. These were the places, after all, that have now made San Francisco Values into American Values. That is the country we live in. It was no doubt the same country we lived in when the GOP took control a few years back, only we just didn't realize it.

Thanks for that tidbit. I'll be using it in the future
Let Michael Fox be the first human guinea pig for embryonic stem cell treatment. My guess is, those brain tumors will make him forget all about parkinsons
Danforth is a sellout regarding the Gospel and the woman in the article is still seriously misled.
