The temporary new face of the democrat party. Can they govern electing anti-war republicans as democrats, or will these people swing back to being republicans once they get their way on the war and the democrats refuse to give them any power or say in how things are done?

These candidates (including Sen. Webb) are one-note candidates. After the war in Iraq is done, they will have no rationale for being Democrats.

Southern Indiana is very conservative. Ellsworth articulated conservative positions even better than Hostettler did. And he signed Grover Norquist's no new tax pledge.

Not when Pelosi gets done with him, he'll become a moonbat just like the rest of them.

We have to get away from this color scheme. The left needs to be red for historical reasons. And it was until the MSM pulled off this ahistorical scam in 2000.
I find it fascinating how quickly conservative Republicans assume that conservative Democrats will suddenly switch to socialism the minute they get a taste of power in Washington.
Ironic, no?
It will be interesting to see how many of the Brad Ellsworths that got elected hang on to their principles or will sellout to the SF witch for power or reelection.
My bet is 90% of them will be rabid moonbats by 2008.
And if that proves to be true then we will correct the problem in 2 years.

Yikes, I consider that bad news. Look, a blue state like Mass. can *shut out* Republicans! If we cant carry more Indiana districts, we will have consigned ourselves to a minority status.
Look at it this way - we need a top 20 target list of takeovers in 2008 to win back the House.
We need to put all three IN districts on that list....
What are odds of recruiting people to beat these new Dem incumbents?
It is important that the Republicans realize that conservatism didn't lose on Tuesday. George Bush lost the middle of the road conservative leaning voters(security moms, soccer moms, suburban middle class, not the true conservative Republican base)on Tuesday and took the party down with him. It happened to Clinton in 94 (when he lost the same voters), it happened to GWB Tuesday.
This group is fickled and not beholden to any particular political party. They are mostly fiscally conservative, family oriented and socially moderate. They can't be swayed with flag burning amendents and while they vote in favor of Gay marriage bans at the state level, they don't believe it is federal issue. As a group they are mostly pro-life with exception, but saw no reason for the federal grandstanding in the Schaivo case and aren't sure they want Roe overturned. They have historically voted pocketbook, but since 9/11 have added national security to the list. As a group they support the administration on the wiretaps, interrogation issues and fighting terrorism, but have grave misgiving about why we are in Iraq and where our Iraq policy is headed. They are strong on illegal immigration, jobs and cultural issues. They sense a change in the cultural that they are not totally comfortable with centered on job outsourcing and what they see as a growing Hispanic influence even in small towns from the midwest to the deep south. Their votes are up for grabs every election cycle and they will vote for the candidates that listens to and addresses their concerns the best. We can win these people on a regular basis with a sound fiscal policy, a strong, sensible, defensible foreign policy and a strong cultural message.
I know these people. I live with them, work with them and talk to them everyday. They are well educated, hardworking, middle to upper middle class, and definitely not policy wonks or political junkies, but they are natural Republicans, and if we offer them a viable choice they will almost always vote that way. However when we govern as liberal democrats and they don't see much difference between the parties they can easily be swayed to vote for the other side. Add this group to our conservative base and the fiscally conservative, socially more liberal young urban voters and we become a strong majority. Kiss off any of these groups espcially the base and the right leaning moderates and we are toast.

Republican Rep. John Hostettler of Indiana, for one, accused Obey and another Democrat who had offered a similar measure, Rep. Steve Israel of New York, of “denigrating and demonizing Christians” and of waging a “war on Christianity in America.”
So far, Hostettler’s Democratic opponent, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Brad Ellsworth, hasn’t raised the Air Force issue. His staffers have said that this is because there is plenty of fertile ground to hoe in Hostettler’s recent votes against foreign aid and resolutions expressing solidarity with Israel.
“We are finding support in the Jewish community not only locally, but in Indianapolis, Chicago and other places across the country, because they’re not happy with Rep. Hostettler’s record on Israel,” said Ellsworth’s campaign manager, Brad Howser.
