CHEYENNE, Wyoming (AP) -- Sen. Craig Thomas, hospitalized since Monday with pneumonia, has been diagnosed with a form of leukemia, his spokesman said Thursday.
The Wyoming Republican, who was easily elected to a third term while in the hospital, issued a statement saying he will undergo treatment and plans to return to Congress in January.

My younger brother died at age 37 from the desease. Diagnosed 9 years earlier, he lived a very normal life.
So normal he did not work hard to get a marrow transplant. No suitable donors were found.
Then it hit, and after nine weeks in the hospital he died. I will never forget those times. Chemo was tried once, with no lasting improvement.
Maybe since then, they have better treatments.
may the Lord bless him with strength and healing

Amen. Thank God is right. He credits his recovery to God answering the prayers of many, including right here on FR:

How fortunate that he had those extra years and went fairly quickly at the end. It is the severe chemo that really undermines these patients' immunity and liver and kidneys. At UCLA they are using a new treatment which seems to put the leukemia in remission without the severe treatment. Ryan O'Neal is one example I know about.
Oh wow ... sending prayers
Thank you for sharing that.
Democratic replacement would be in the job until 2008 for a Senate seat. Lieberman is probably taking this news the worst to be cynical. He is in the catbird's seat right now. Prayers for a quick recovery.
I pray he is ok. His health is much more important than a seat. I would rather his health than lose another seat. I might get blasted, but I accept them and actually will be proud to be blasted for this.
Actually, you don't lose the seat. Wyoming has it written into the law that the party keeps the seat. Once a person leaves office, the governor notifies the party. In this case it would be the Republicans. They submit to him 3 names. He gets to choose who of the three to select, but they are all picked by the Republican party. Just heard this on the radio.
Ed Bradley just died from that.
I'm not even going to look at that. Those people are revolting.
I see overwhelmingly positive posts, wishing him well, pointing out that it's frequently treatable, etc.. Pleasantly surprising.

Wow! That is great news. Hope the Senator gets better soon just the same.
Specter had it...lost his hair...he appears to be doing well.
Praying for Craig Thomas, that he will respond positively to treatment. May God be with him during his illness.
I thought Spector had a brain tumor. I could be wrong.
