Retaking the US Senate in 2008
11-9-2006 | self

Posted on 11/08/2006 9:15:35 PM PST by staytrue

All we have to do to retake the senate is to win 2 of these 12 seats.

Arkansas: Pryor (D) Delaware: Biden (D) Illinois: Durbin (D) Iowa: Harkin (D) Louisiana: Landrieu (D) Massachusetts: Kerry (D) Michigan: Levin (D) Montana: Baucus (D) New Jersey: Lautenberg (D) Rhode Island: Reed (D) South Dakota: Johnson (D) West Virginia: Rockefeller (D)

It looks like we could have a shot at Pryor, Harkin, Baucus, and Johnson.

AND THEN ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS HOLD ALL 21 OF OUR OWN SEATS THAT ARE UP.

Not sure which of you two is correct about how the blame will be attributed, rightly or wrongly....but now that Rummy's out, I fear we will have some sort of large, destructive terror attack on our soil within the next 18 months.

It also doesn't help having a muslim in Congress (Ellison) with access to classified info that he can feed to the terrorists.

That too. We need to engage in guerrilla warfare, and we'd better learn how, fast. Too bad Newt Gingrich isn't there to do it.

John Warner is old, out of the majority and hated by all.

He will retire and it would be M. Warner's seat if he wants it.

But, why did mark warner not want to run for President?

Retaking the US Senate in 2008

Ronald Reagan was the leaded of the Conservative Republican movement. The only way to retake the house and senate and even the presidency is for every Republican to become a Ronald Reagan Republican.

Lindsey Graham - SC (safe Republican)

How can you say that? Graham's styling himself as McCain Lite and his membership in the gang of 14 has nobody I know wanting to vote for him, including many of us who put him there.

On another subject for 2008, don't forget that California has now given us a golden opportunity in the Presidential election;

You really went into quite an accurate detail of our prospects in 2008.

Feel free to start another vanity on your own.

My point was that by losing the senate in 06, we've probably lost for 08 also.

Aren't you glad the gop got taught a lesson ?

I have to agree with most of you post. If we don't lose more seats in 2008, it will be a small miracle.

I am afraid the GOP will lose another 4-5 seats in the Senate.

Plus if we can kick the rinos (collins, dole, alexander, etc.) out we can probably manage to lose 10 or more seats. That would really teach the GOP a lesson.

Can we get ANY Republicans to actually filibuster anything at all? This Gentleman's Filibuster they innovated for the Democrats will crumble when the Democrats use Real World tactics in the Congress. Republicans cannot be effective so long as they feel in their hearts that Democrats are the Natural Rulers of America and Republican interregna are for the purpose of tying up some Democrat loose ends and getting the economy back on track for the Democrats to take over again.

How, then, do you suppose Reagan was elected?

The reason a conservative can be elected is because conservatism works. If we don't really believe that, why are we here on FR?

Ok, what do you think of our chances ?

I think what's left of the Gang of Seven (along with a few others) will do what they can to muck things up.

This is one of my favorite subjects.

Without analyzing the races one by one, I would observe the following:

In deep blue states like Massachusetts, Democratic senators run unopposed.

In deep red states like North Dakota and Nebraska, Democratic senators also run unopposed.

Democrats contest EVERY SINGLE SEAT, even in states where Bush got >60% of the vote. Just ask Senator-elect Tester.

There are whole swaths of territory in which the Republican party at the Senatorial level does not even exist.

If the Senate is to be recaptured, this needs a major re-think.

"that bridge to nowhere Stevens guy"

When I saw that tirade he made on the floor, I was hoping some other congresscritter would just kick him as hard as possible in the groin. That guy is a jackass.

But, why did mark warner not want to run for President?

He wanted to run. But he realized it wouldn't be prudent. According to the gossip grapevine, he has something in common with a recent Democrat president.

You are right. As soon as Bush signs the amnesty bill, that will end the Republican Party.

It will never happen. The Dems will MAKE SURE they allow in millions more illegal immigrants and legalize the ones that are here. You won't see another Republican congress in your lifetime.

Man, what has happened to NH, that used to be a solid Republican state and now it's just Massachusetts Lite.

NH is by no means Mass lite. We just overwhelmingly banned private use of eminent domain. Liberty is still the strongest political tendency here.

However, because Liberty is so strong here, the turn away from Liberty by "organized Republicanism" has hurt the party here much worse than elsewhere.

"Lynchism" is a form of Dem politics that accomodates certain values which Liberty voters hold dear. "Values" Republicanism is meaningless here - it represents no more than 25% of the people, if that - and since the Dems here have not been open about pushing socialism, the middle of the road voter has shifted, rather decisively, into their camp.
