n Friday night at the Roans Prairie Community Center, Mark Holmes was there to show the film documentary, "Truth Be Tolled," directed by San Antonio resident William H. Molina. Mark has an enlarged map of Grimes County showing the proposed path that the Trans Texas Corridor will take.
When I first got upset about this project was when I found out that it would elimate the Historic Oakland Cemetery. When looking at the map, I found that this is not the only cemetery in our area that will suffer.
Others included are Independence Cemetery right off FM 2620, Shiro Cemetery on Highway 30 and Fairview off Highway 149.
I have anchestors in three out of four of these! I don't think that people understand that this is not the only proposed toll road that will be in our county.
The other one will be an extension off Highway 6 and will go through Anderson and Iola on the way to Dallas. Grimes County is going to be carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey! *
Some people say this is a done deal and won't happen in our lifetime. Something like this shouldn't happen in anybody's lifetime.
We were pleasantly surprised to have a full house, since there was no advance publicity other than posters that we had put up, word of mouth and of course lots of help from Tom Turner at the radio station. Tom, by the way, was there to cover the event.
None of our elected county officials were there, but I was pleased to see both candidates for County Judge in attendance.

Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
Bring out your dead!
This guy is clueless. It's not about what's best for us. It's about what's best for Mexico.
Spoken like a true idiot.
Please add me to your ping list. Dh is having a hard time believing that this thing is real.
Thanks. You have a great night too.
Bring out your dead and move them about 45 feet to the left!
You've been added.
Thanks!
You are welcome. :-)
You laugh, but north of Dallas where the Dallas Tollway is being extended, some coffins were unearthed during the construction. It was in the paper, and it held up construction for a bit while the remains were identified. Apparently, the family who sold their property to the city...or was it taken? Anyway, the city moved several buried relatives from the property to a cemetery much before construction began. I think I read that there were a few extras dead relatives buried there who were sort of a surprise to everyone.
Thanks for the ping!
Would the cemetery be the little square thing in the center?
You're welcome.
This can't happen - what addresses will these voters use if they are moved? ACORN ALERT!
BTTT
Posting a link to the UT Liberal rag?.........Oh, Yea! That's going to convince me We need to carve up Texas.
