As I said before, unless we pour it on and quit fighting a PC war in Iraq, we will lose. If the Republicans face a wake-up call with this election, there is a chance Bush will realize what is going on in Iraq and produce a real war plan with concrete and measurable objectives and timelines. "We're gonna defeat the terrorists" is not a valid war plan because it has no concrete operational meaning.
As for Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid, this is an unfortunate by-product of Bush Republicanism that was set in motion years ago. When conservatism is tried, it largely works. When the GOP abandons conservatism, it loses the middle-class votes it needs to stay in power.
My Congresswoman, Judy Biggert, was safe, and at least by not voting I can express my outrage at weak-kneed liberal Bushism. Ronald Reagan was a genial person by nature, but he was also a street brawler who didn't back down. Bush is a pansy in politics and in war.

Iraq is viewed as something Bush "broke" and it's up to him to fix. No one else will be blamed for a broken Iraq.

Good point. I voted in NOVA, there were more people standing in line with Rep. sample ballots. I was actually slightly hassled by an older hippy-type who didn't like me refusing his sample DemoRat ballot. He asked me if I knew "about the Amendment making it illegal to live with your girlfriend" (nice spin, eh?). I said, "That'll make my wife happy."

So what happens when there is a vacancy on the Court in the next two years? We get a liberal justice.

Anything wrong that happens in the next two years will be exclusively the fault of Bush.
And a usual the dumbass voters will lap it up
Ain't nothing new
I was reading about Hoover and the Great Depression
He tried passing some of the same programs FDR did but the DEMs who controlled congress blocked them on purpose so they could take the Presidency
Stupid public didn't know what was what

So here is a question. I am not entirely familiar with the law. Assuming Stevens resigns, what if President Bush just is really, really, really slow about nominating a replacement? Can he do that? Then there are only 8 justices and a better proportion of conservatives. If he can't do that, can't he just repeatedly nominate the most conservative person he can find, knowing that they will be turned down by the Senate, and then the court remains with only 8 members for the duration? Thanks for restating my thoughts! The question is , would Bush hold his ground?

I seem to remember that ALITO was forced on him in lieu of Harriet Myers by a conservative revolt--You remember thatForced?? Well perhaps! So why would it be any different now?

WMAL (Washington DC ABC affiliate) says that Sen Allen may concede as early as tomorrow.
This statement was not qualified, and it sourced ABC news.

Well, I voted Republican, despite Bush having divided the party. Stop blaming everyone else BUT him and give credit for the loss where it is due. Yes, nevermind that the GOP subgroup taking the biggest losses were the Tancredo candidates. Pretty much all but Tancredo himself got their asses kicked, but of course the Tancredo-bots blame Bush.
I remember all the spamming from the Tancredo crowd of how they were 'going to send a message' and only support candidates adopting the hardest line against illegal aliens. Guess which group just marginalized themselves from the next conservative coalition that will emerge? Even Katherine Harris didn't flame out as bad. The all-or-nothing option is gone from the table after that sorry performance, any solution will involve some sort of penalty buy-in/Amnesty Lite, and if we are lucky perhaps can still get business prosecutions and a complete fence.
