Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race? [MARC AMBINDER]
I would have preferred that they hold off on this type of talk for at least a few days, and if warranted longer. Thanks.
You might have a point! I know I am ready to start on the 2008 election right now. I am in a 'take no prisoners' approach as most on here can probably see. You win elections when you learn from your failures and mistakes. Burying them or blaming fraud is not going to work unless you are willing to do something about the fraud. Essentially we have done nothing because we don't want to hurt the 'feelings' of the DemocRATs it seems like to me.
I will not be one of those defending the last six months of this campaign and how it was orchestrated or defending how the Senate and House were run going into this election. Those fat cats in both bodies forgot except for a few good people what got them elected -- smaller government and less taxes while having a strong defense overseas and domestic. Sen Coburn only could pick up 13 Senators that agreed with him on the bloated budget. One of those 13 got beat in VA because he kept apologizing when he should have told the media one time he apologized and the next time they asked said next question as I already answered the first one.
it would take a huge amount of time - first, they have to go into the districts where these final "flurry" of votes came from, absentee and provisional ballots, and collect them all. we are talking thousands of them. then, they have to go through each one and ask "whose vote is this?" - comparing it to registrations, and then the validity of those registrations (that are on file).
and then, let's say Allen spends weeks doing this - and finds a few thousand votes like this that are invalid. who orders they be thrown out?
From the article, I think this is background strategy building...not intended as a public position statement.
When I take it as that, it is a lot easier to understand.
Actually my son has a friend with very little trouble can program a voting machine to make sure everyone votes for a certain person no matter what lever they pull. He demonstrated it for our election board when they were looking to replace our paper ballots where you draw a line to connect the arrows and the machine counts the ballots as they are inserted and keeps track of how many ballots and compare to the voter roles where you had to sign.
If you threw away your vote keep it to yourself, OK.
Fresh off getting their bottoms spanked hard.....
Whoever the TR's are -
"Doesn't Virginia law require an automatic re-count if the winning margin is less than 1%?"
I believe that to be the case. Virginia conducted a recount just last year. And just who the Hell are these people who are telling Allen not to ask for a recount?
What are you talking about?
I am talking about those Republican Senators that did not stand with Dr. Coburn when he wanted to cut pork and have smaller government. Some of Republicans actually made fun of my Senator. I voted my Republican Congressman and we didn't have a senate race. I am a huge Dr. Coburn grassroots supporter and don't see how you could get from what I said I would vote for a liberal Dem or one pretending to be conservative that plans to tax and spend.
Just amazing chutzpah!!!!!
Virginia needs to follow procedure and correctly certify the election, even if it requires a recount.
any machine can be tampered with - but you need full access to it before the voting, and no oversight when the votes are read off of it. someone is going to notice.
but fraud through provisional and absentee ballots - those are "real votes" that are cast as part of the process, and then have to be "undone" somehow.
well, there isn't much I can say to that. if you guys don't understand that Webb's own military record means nothing - he sold out completely, he will be a back bencher who will do exactly as he is told by the Clinton/Reid power structure that runs the senate.
Whatever. Why not pull a Gore? Rhino's do not belong here. Get lost.
Hey! Lighten up there! Moose4 is NOT a RINO. He is simply stating how it works here in Virginia. If you don't like that then just move on. No reason to be snippy.
Thanks for the explanation. I'm not in favor of delving into the minutia of this election. If some reasoned timely documentation surfaces fine. If not, I do think Allen should do the right thing. I'm not looking to defend idiotic actions.
Thanks. I appreciate the additional comments.
Wonderful. You know, it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult to develop a fool-proof voting process. What gives?
I'm cool, Moose4 is fine. My shorthand way of saying that Rhino's must go.
