Allen Awaits Vote Review; Webb Begins Transition in Va Senate Race (Webb Assembles Transition Team)

RICHMOND, Va. — Republican Sen. George Allen refused to concede defeat Wednesday, even as Democrat Jim Webb declared victory and began assembling a transition team.

With Republican Sen. Conrad Burns' loss in Montana, the Democrats would gain control of the Senate if Webb's lead holds. The margin between the two Virginia candidates was about 7,000 votes.

"The votes are in and we won," Webb declared. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Webb had 1,169,285 votes, or 49.6 percent, to Allen's 1,162,577, or 49.3 percent. Allen's campaign, however, said the Senator would wait for a full review of the Virginia vote.

"The conclusion of the canvass will be the final official results," said Ed Gillespie, the former Republican National Committee chairman and adviser to Allen.

Representatives from both campaigns and party officials were at polling places across Virginia as the canvass was under way. The state has until Nov. 14 to complete it, Gillespie said.

The more I think about this this is increasingly suspicious. Richmond went 72-28, but the fact that the last reporting precincts (with Webb trailing) went something like 88-12 simply cannot be coincidence. The fact that these last precincts had such a marked disparity blows my mind.

I have a lot of trouble believing that the Allen campaign would intimidate voters but somebody did.

There is no evidence of that.

The flyers (Flora has a copy) were clearly meant to be humorous and you'd have to be an idiot not to see that.

As for the calls, the main complainant was a former Young Democrat chair.

I can promise you the Allen campaign had nothing to do with it, if it really even existed at all.

That would be my guess. He's got nothing to lose by waiting until the canvassing is complete on the 14th and seeing if that 7400 votes narrows significantly.

Yeah, that Washington state election was a disgrace to America. We need to get some payback and defeat little Christy next time.

Yes, she did steal that election. I worked on the recount. And I wouldn't wish that kind of dirty trick dishonesty on my worst enemy.

It looks to me like Allen is thinking about doing the same thing. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks that way.

Did you notice that almost all of the Fairfax County precincts were in early in the evening--226 of 229, but for the longest time the last three did not report.

The three precincts held in Fairfax were their absentee votes.

Schmuckie Chumer can have a nice cup of STFU and stay out of Virginia politics. If he was within three-tenths of a percent in a race, you know he'd have a legion of lawyers going over every ballot with a magnifying glass while the Rats were manufacturing enough votes to get him over.

Schumer should mind his own business.

the bottom line we have in this country - is that if you win on election day, by any means, you win. courts won't toss out votes, no matter if they are illegally cast. and I am not talking about technicalities here, like misdating a ballot - I am talking about flat out manufactured votes.

republicans have two choices - expose this kind of fraud and root it out, or start getting into the game to manufacture votes the same way and level the playing field.

we cannot win in close states, if the Dems have a system to manufacture thousands of votes, and we have to accept it.

At this point, I think Bush can forget about putting another conservative on SCOTUS.

Quite frankly, after his actions today, I don't think he ~wants~ to.

Allen has been in politics too long to do something like that.

They've added a "conditional vote" precinct to each county and city. That's to track the "conditional" ballots--y'know, the people voting without ID and all that fun.

I noticed that when I was digging around on the county pages and each one had one extra precinct now.

I don't see that at all.

there was definitely some strange action going on with the last .5% of precincts reporting, should we just let it go?

Oh yeah, there's one "conditional vote" precinct per county/city per congressional district, like they do for absentees--so Fairfax County has three conditional vote "precincts", one for the Eighth, one for the Tenth, and one for the Eleventh.

Well, exactly. Like I said if it even existed (and I'm skeptical) it wasn't from Allen.

but it's very suspicious the way these surges of heavily Democrat votes come in so late at the very end of the first machine count.

That's standard DemoncRAT m/o

provisional ballots - yes, another area of massive fraud. just pull out the moter voter logs, and start filling them out in the back room.

I don't know if there's something nefarious there or if it's just size--Fairfax County had almost 27,000 absentees.

There's lagging - but what's really needed is for someone to look and see if there are precincts with 300% turnout, or something strange like that.
