Heard on the radio here just now that there are roughly about 100,000 mail-in ballots still to be counted, and roughly 50,000 of those were brought to the polls yesterday. And with the race being this close: Mitchell - 71,077 - 51% Hayworth - 65,122 - 46% and with Hayworth not yet conceeding, its possible we could hold this seat.

Question: once a candidate concedes, the opponent wins even though the opponent finally gets less number of votes?. No. A concession is an unofficial act (as is a victory statement).
The eventual winner is determined by whom is certified as the winner by the top state elections official (usually the Secrertary of State). And that will be the person who drew the most approved votes.

Didn't Algor concede over the phone to GWB late election night of 2000, and then retract it?

Bush is assuming "the position" for input from Pelosi..
Hayworth if elected might laugh at him, few others left that would..

Weldon was indicted.
Probably a dirty trick, but enough to get 8% to flip.

Arizon went Democrat.
Feelings-based voter couldn't be bothered to pay attention on immigration. All they knew is that they hated Bush on it and that Hayworth was being called racist.
Hayworth or his co-writer forgot to get a fact checker. They had the brilliant notion of soiling their Americanization program by using Henry Ford.
That was probably worth 1 million in donations to Hayworth's opponent.

That doesn't mean he will "roll over for anything Pelosi wants." Not in my book anyway.
I guess I allowed my take on his speach to be colored by years of watching him take the lib/big gov't approach even when he had all the cards, and by his unmitigated glee at the idea of selling us out with the RATS on the illegal immigration amnesty issue..

I have a stupid question. Are the votes always completely counted to certify the vote or is over once conceded?
It depends on the state , in the 2004 presidential race over 1.5 million absentee ballots in Cali were never opened or counted after concession.. in all likelihood Bush may have had the actual national popular vote despite what Jon Carry said..

300-400,000??? How could that be?

If he pulls it off, you won't see much about this in the mainstream media. They have there margin of victory, and unless it spreads, they will ignore anything else

I've written off Allen and maybe Burns. But it would be wonderful to save a young leader like Hayworth. He certainly deserves it. It's a shame to lose the GOP's best young leaders like him or Santorum. We need them for the future of the party.
To: Clump
You'd think there has to be some military absentees in there. And maybe some conservative retiree ballots.
To: Neidermeyer
Bush never said Pelosi gets what she wants. He said he`d talk with them but maintain his principles. Exactly what he should say. The Rats didn`t wake up and take a smar pill this AM. Let`m have their fun but, on the important stuff, GWB and the Republicans will, at worst, stop them.

Absentee voting is very popular here so numbers in the hundreds of thousands is not uncommon or surprising for usIn most competitive congressional districts, total turnout was less (sometimes considerably so) than 200,000 voters. You're suggesting well over 50% of the voting population filed absentee ballots that were not received until after election day. That's a completely ridiculous assertion.

Well Maricopa county is Phoenix so the population is high.Um... congressional districts are apportioned on the basis of population, so all have roughly the same population. Congressional districts in Manhattan and the Mojave desert have roughly the same population.

No, the ycount those last and here in Arizona, absentee ballots are popular. All you do is request the ballot and they send it to you. The number I gave is correct.

As i have previously stated, absentee ballots are supposedly counted last. And many people vote absentee here in AZ, esp. in the Phoenix area.

Sorry, you're just wrong here. The article references early and provisional ballots, not absentee ballots, and the number listed (280,000) is state-wide, not just in the AZ05 district. I'm sure absentee ballots remain to be counted, but I'm just as sure that there's not a congressional district in the 49 states not-named Oregon that has ever had 100,000 mail in ballots.
