RECOUNTS [Byron York]
Unless something unforeseen happens, we're looking at a recount in Virginia, where the law calls for a state-paid recount if the difference between candidates is one-half of one percent or less.
According to numbers on the Virginia State Board of Elections website, Webb and Allen are separated by 8,359 votes, out of a total 2,361,441 cast a difference of about one-third of one percent.
The situation is different in Montana, where Burns and Tester are separated by 3,113 votes out of 341,891 cast.
There, the recount standard is one-quarter of one percent, so if those totals hold up, a state-paid recount is unlikely. Posted at 8:26 AM
does anyone know about Steele???
You are correct. This board is, and really should be classified as, not a conservative forum, but a religious conservative forum. There are other places for more libertarian viewpoints - Free Republic is not it.
At this point I think Allen is clearly done for regarding the the 08 POTUS race.
He lost. By a lot. I'm really sad; he was one of the better senatorial candidates this season.
I agree. And it looks like in reality he's done for in the 06 race. Instead, we get a pedophile.
Says who? You? Do you have any Constitutional authority for that statement?
If you're for killing babies to advance research, so be it. Try sticking up for your position instead of whining about it.
Possibly Lieberman, but becoming a Repub could hurt his 2012 reelection chances.
I think cajungril is just stating that she didn't understand this was both a social and economic conservative board that often focuses more on social ones than economic ones. The GOP is, or at least was, a party that used to tolerate those viewpoints that were more libertarian. This board isn't meant to support the GOP alone, especially where it ignores social issues.
He won't switch. He is Democratic on a lot of issue, has a committee chair being dangled in front of him and will be welcomed back in his party.
That's the stupidest post I've read for quite some time. Government pass laws. Laws are what society/voters consider right/wrong/moral/just. Government and Morality are impossible to separate.
You might want to read Washington's farewell address.
montana just isn't a recount, that has some blown vote reads from the machines in one county - does anyone know if that error will break for Burns.
if we could salvage a 50/50 senate, if the midst of this blowout, that would be something.
I take that back. Libertarians who are outnumbered and have difficulty defending their positions feel it's a Republican board.
I have absolutely no difficulty at all finding Libertarian postings and positions on this forum every hour of every day. Pretty piss poor job of restricting it to Republican doctrine, huh?
I don't think it would, he wouldn't need to switch parties, just stay and Independent and caucus with the GOP.
Northern Virginia has attracted a large population of illegal aliens, and after amnesty Virginia will turn even bluer.
