Unless something unforeseen happens, we're looking at a recount in Virginia, where the law calls for a state-paid recount if the difference between candidates is one-half of one percent or less.
According to numbers on the Virginia State Board of Elections website, Webb and Allen are separated by 8,359 votes, out of a total 2,361,441 cast — a difference of about one-third of one percent.
The situation is different in Montana, where Burns and Tester are separated by 3,113 votes out of 341,891 cast.
There, the recount standard is one-quarter of one percent, so if those totals hold up, a state-paid recount is unlikely. Posted at 8:26 AM

Unbelievable... Tim Russert was on NBC talking about the new House leadership and one word he never used... liberal. That is one thing they are, if anything. Definitely a little bias there.
However these Senate races go I hope they're resolved soon; I'd hate to see a repeat of 2000.

Unfortunately Meagher County has only 1,400 adults - and based on 2000 and 2004, the best we can hope for is a +500, which may not be close enough to get a state paid recount.
Unless there are uncounted absentees and an unually large number of provisionals from Burns precincts, I am afraid this one is done.
Your numbers are old. CNN says that Tester leads by 1735 votes. 99% of precints in.
398,259 votes counted. So 0,25% of it is 996 votes. A state-paid recount is unlikely, but let´s wait for safe informations on the absentee vote situation.
It seems all counties are in now, except for the absentees, of course.
Why even bother at this point because one up or one down it still takes 60 votes to even get to cloture on any issue.
No, Meagher is still missing. But this county alone cannot change the outcome. So IF there are uncounted absentee ballots out there, these can make a difference. Otherwise: 6 years D.C. for Mr. Tester.
Anybody know what the amount of overseas and absenteeds not counted in VA yet? Same with MT?

In VA the absentee ballots are already included in the vote tally:
Mailed absentee ballots are counted on Election Day in the Central Absentee Precinct (CAP). Fairfax County uses optical scan equipment to count paper ballots. Please follow the marking instructions on your ballot and return it in the envelopes provided. Be sure to fill in ALL the information on Envelope B, including; your full name, legal address, your signature, your witness's signature and a date. Anyone, including your spouse, family member or neighbor, may serve as your witness.
In other words, it's over. No way a recount changes the total by 8000 votes.
that's still almost twice as many as the .25% requirement...
