Bush and the Republican leadership did little to change the public view. They have had little to no backbone since 2000 when it came to the Democrat attacks and allowed public opinion to be skewed by any ole Tom, Dick or Harry Reid that came along. The media's attempt to portray our government as broken has been successful and you know a good part of it is broken. The Republicans broke themselves. I have seen little signs of any Reagan Republicans around. Uncontrollable spending, porous borders and an unbelievable loss of the Iraq PR war. The Republicans deserve this loss tonight. I hate to see it because the consequences will be severe but they did it to themselves and now everyone will pay for it.

That will be the test. I really don't know if he will veto anything.

The best hope in stopping the Bush amnesty was a Republican victory in the House in 2006, but the Bushbots sunk it for us all and now with the Democrats running the show you are going to see an amnesty bill forwarded and Bush will sign it with a smile as a “great example of bipartisan leadership”.

Maybe that was the plan all along.

Great post, but be prepared for the responses by the RINOs and the bullies who are going to jump on your post. I see some have already arrived.

J.D. Hayworth lost in AZ so you can take your obvious glee and shove it. That tossed out the immigration deal! Not very smart to have written this tonight since it is obvious that you and your ilk helped cause this loss by continually saying everything was wrong and most likely staying home.

My opinion of folks like you that want to gloat tonight is that you don't have any class!

Bingo!

And the thing is, they've been saying that since 1999.

Agreed - c'mon folks, this was an across-the-board whoopin' It was anti-Republican - conserv, mod, lib, neo, christian, fiscal, social, whatever... Don't let FR devolve into a cesspool of hatred and finger-pointing. Plenty of blame and defeat to go around.

When you wanna get down on Bush....pull out the Nancy Pelosi/Barney Frank/John Conyers/Murtha/Rangel photos.

When you wanna get down on the RINO's, pull out the same.

Thats how its going to be a long time if you go after each other. The sooner you focus...the sooner its over.

All Americans have the God given right to be stupid and all the Republicans and self appointed conservatives that stay home and/or didn`t support the President 100% exercised that right.

You think this is gloating? Try reading it again. And it's "folks like you" who are responsible for what happened tonight.

but the Bushbots sunk it for us all

Why don't you explain just how the Bushbots did that, since you agree with this screed?

An excellent succinct post!

"Profligate spending and growth of government = disaster for Republicans. Case closed."

I thought I would quote it!

if we nuked tora bora and fallujah, there may have been extremely nasty international backlash and protests at home, but we would be looking at expanding our majority in the house by 10-20 seats and have gained 5 or 6 senate seats...

President Bush is responsible. He should have taken elocution lessons on a daily basis. His mind is good, his communication skills zero. I fear that he was kept out of the loop about the reality of the turning tide. The good news is that gay marriage went down, (for now) and that the conservatives democrats seem to have taken their party back. (for now). The president will regret the day he tied the hands of the military and began fighting the war according to opinion polls. Shock and awe worked, whine and gravel fails every time. Pathetic.

And I bet DU is just gleeful at the amount of in-fighting going on here.

1994 was an across-the-board whoopin'. This was a moderate yet pivotal setback that we can recover from in 2008 if we act in a principled and disciplined manner.
