Mark Steyn on the results...

Right now, this isn't a Dem landslide but a conventional Year Six election with an underperforming opposition party. 1938 Senate races: GOP picked up six seats. 1958 Senate election: Dems picked up 13 seats. 1986 Senate election: Dems picked up nine (net). In other words, by historical standards this is an excellent result for the President's party six years in. Needless to say, that's not a perspective the Dems, the media, the Europeans or the insurgents will have any time for....

The Dims will deny it and call names, but this is the truth: The terrorists are delighted with tonight's results.

The GOP lost a somewhat safe seat in Indiana because a Libertarian loon siphoned off enough votes to put the Dem over the top.

The Rats are never more than a tax increase away from being voted back out. They will make convenient whipping boys for the 2008 elections.

Except, what the hell was going on in the world in 1938, 1958, and 1986. NOTHING! Here we are in the beginning of a long, brutal, and bitter war and the nation throws it towards the Dems. And who is to blame? Screw the blame. Let America go through two years of Charlie Rangell, Alcee Hastings, John Conyers, and Stretch Pelosi. And you Freepers who sat out or voted for your vaunted pot-smoking Libertarians - to quote Al Pacion - EF YOU TOO!!!!

The Libertarians would have voted for the Dem to punish "W".

Anyone who blames this on Freepers is a moron. They saw the opportunity and with their willing accomplices in the press, they seized the it. I think I will take the rest of the week off from politics. I need to get a hobby.

I like your style.

There was a problem or two brewing in 1938. Sorry.

After NYC gets nuked or somesuch, I'll have the "Don't blame me, I voted Republican" bumper sticker on. A lot of good it'll do then.

If the House goes Dummiecrat, as it now appears it may, then: illegal aliens will get amnesty, the tax cuts will expire, subpoenas and possible impeachment of the president will begin, for starters, among a lot of other fugly results.

It ain't gonna be pretty ...

This all makes it easier to win in 08. However, on a side note, this shouldnt of happened. Republicans and Conservatives alike dropped the ball. They acted like Dems and kept the Republicans away.

Im stumped on Santorum though. This gives me pause on our society as a whole that this good man did not win.

1986 - Ronald Reagan was very upbeat about the results. He knew it was the ebb and flow of politics. But, he was confident that, on balance, his party would rebound even higher.
