you are missing 2 votes each for ehrlich and steele, mine and my wife's absentee ballots, which will not be counted until thursday
What actually matters is what precincts are reporting. If Baltimore City is not in that 35%, then Steele has obviously lost.

The networks break down the actual returns from various precincts. If the vote is close and there are a whole lot of Democratic majority precincts yet to report and only a few Republican majority precincts yet to report, they call it for the Dems, and visa versa in the opposite case.
So... While it may seem close right now, the analysts think there are more Dems than Republicans yet to report. Let's hope the analysts are wrong. This is one of the cases where they could be wrong because the Maryland Dem areas have large numbers of black citizens who may cross over to vote for a black candidate.
The other 65% of the vote which will not necessarily follow the same trend. Dem areas usually come in later in most states.
