so you explain why an economy with a 12K dow and 4.4% unemployment, still has so many people down on the economy? and those people voted tonight.

trade and jobs offshoring issues are the reasons why.

there's no way around it...this election of 2006 was a disaster.
You bet - awful. The Dems basically ran the table, they needed to pick off 6 seats for the Senate and hold their own close ones. And they did, RI, PA, OH, MO, VA, MT, NJ, MD. Amazing really, no one saw that coming to that extent. That's an inside straight! All types of candidates, all parts of the country. Awful.

ACORN was busted in KC and St. Louis for fraudlent ballots. A recount is necessary.

Well, that's interesting.

One thing we do know after tonight.
Jeb won't be on the ticket.

I'd probably look for Rudy to pick a Westerner (though I'd love Romney, but that's two Nor'easters).

Bill Owens?

At this moment, I'd say it's the ideal ticket. Rudy is tremendously appealing in urban areas, but still "gets" the threat from Islamofascists -- and Sanford brings in the conservative/southern/religious voters. I totally see it happening. Totally.

"PLAZE HEP ME UNSYNCOFINT, AH EM A KRISTIUN IDJUT"

Hilarious ... and the rest of the post is top notch, too.

This loss has put serious stress on the Republican coalition ... and we need to decide if that coalition is worth saving.

The Christian bashers need to realize that it was largely the addition of social conservatives that rescued Republicans from permanent minority status.

Christian conservatives need to realize that we do not have the numbers to win elections without forming reasonable coalitions.

We need to lay off the blame game. Social conservatives did not cost this election. Economic conservatives did not cost this election. Not even the infamous RINO's cost the election.

The tiny "let's-teach-the-GOP-a-lesson" fringe, as wrong-headed as they are, did not cost the election.

It was an equal opportunity rout. And it was brought about by dissatisfaction on the part of the sheeple over the Iraq war.

Liberalism is a mental disorder and a addiction

As a former liberal I must agree with that characterization. The only way I can see that conservatives can turn things around is if enough liberals start waking up that they sway their friends, who in turn sway their friends, etc. I don't know how we can reach critical mass, but if we do the liberals are finished; if we don't, the best we can do is limit the speed of our own slide into the abyss.

I don't know what stimulus would be most effective at turning liberals, but one that I would think would be helpful would be if a conservative were to do a "Criswell"-style prediction routine and ask people to write down his predictions and ask liberals to--as a game--seal them in an envelope. But unlike Criswell, actually make predictions of things which to any rational conservative are entirely predictable. A few years later, he should ask liberals to look in their envelopes and see how he fared.

As a liberal, I found that when liberal politicians' programs failed to work as advertised I always viewed the failures as resulting from unforeseeable circumstances. Would have been a little harder to rationalize if someone had, in fact, foreseen them perfectly.

WTF? McCaskill is giving a "victory" speech and the race isn't even called yet! Disgusting...

Well, one way to look at it is that they may think that this one will end razor tight, so they want the 'declared winner' advantage going into recounts (and perhaps lawsuits) ala George Bush vs. Al Gore.

Or maybe she really is about to win. We'll see soon enough.

this seals it, the senate is lost. I don't think Allen can pull off anything with the recount.

The GOP lost because they have become in many ways Democrats lite, not because they didn't make nice with Democrats. Dems fight dirty, lie, and the MSM is their wholly owned subsidiary.

If Republicans had spines and courage and stood up for the conservative principles the party is supposed to stand for, they would have won more seats. If they had faced down the lies of the MSM with vigor, if they had faced down the crap shoved by the Democrats and not looked like they couldn't find their d*** with both hands, they would have won.

Neutral and beige and Democrat lite is the perfect way for the GOP to continue to lose and lose big. The difference without a distinction is a recipe for disaster.

Without huge spending cuts this country is headed into the abyss, for more reasons than one.
