Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002

The trial of Sarbanes-Oxley - The corporate regulation brought in after the Enron scandal stands accused of making matters worse

The act was named after its two main sponsors, Senator Paul Sarbanes (pictured right above) and Congressman Mike Oxley (left). Sarbanes-Oxley, or SOX, as it has become known, was unpopular with business people from the start. In recent years it has been hard to find a chief executive of a public company who does not complain vehemently about the burdens imposed by the dreaded SOX.

Indeed, rather than diminish as the initial shock wore off, the complaints have only got louder. The SOX-bashers have been joined by such luminaries as Alan Greenspan, the former head of the Federal Reserve and Bob Greifeld, the boss of the NASDAQ stockmarket. And the critics are not just American. Because of SOX, says Mr Greifeld, “international business clearly perceives a ‘problem’ with US markets today.”

It didn't cure Enron. It is killing U.S. corporations.

Go Ohio!

Let me know when you're ready to defend Taft. Ever hear of the SSTA?

I think he loses.

It kills me, but I think we end up with a pervert for our Senator.

If he manages to win, it will be under 1000 votes.

85% of Shelby County, Tennessee (which includes Memphis) is in.

Thank God!. At least we can put that one in the W column.

Really? They're a traded company. What would Google what with radio and TV stations?

Uh, because they are in the business of selling advertizing. That's all TV and Radio stations do.

Most people don't realise that the commercials are the content on radio and TV. The programming is filler to (hopefully) keep you there to watch said content.

Clear Channel and Viacom are also some of the biggest owners of billboards around the country.

Would it be overboard for the RNC to run national ads tomorrow congratulating the terrorists for their victory?

Re. MO: What the frig is taking so long for numbers to trickle in?

They have to figure out how many votes the Democrat needs.

Maybe.....he has the votes now, but something "funny" is going on. Virginia won't call it and it's 97% vote counted.

I'm going to resist the urge to restate basicly the same thing. I have considered McCain to be a massive A.H. for the last six years. It's very hard for me to ever see a way I could vote for him. EVER!

I think part of the problem is we are this great big powerful nation but we have our young soldiers getting blown to bits rolling around in humvees in backward desert towns, 3 + years after shock and awe.

It's not the war, it's the lack of killer instinct. If Bush kicked ass we'd be better off, electorally and more importantly, in the Mideast. Muzzie terrorists only understand brute force, not hand-holding and letting their fighters drift back into the population.
