Welcome to the live thread for the California Primary Election. Polls are open until 8pm tonight. If you are a registered voter, it is your duty to vote and defend your rights and civil liberties, protect your pocketbook, and vote the bums out where applicable.
Feel free to discuss issues key to your local area that others may be interested in. Post your polling place experiences if you like. And post numbers as they come in later tonight.
There are no coat-tails. None. Zero.
I'm greatly disturbed to discover I may well have been too optimistic about our chances in CA. It's simply chilling.

if you aren't sanctioned by the New Majority elements and operatives in the Ca GOP power structure, you're toast.. I'm surprised McPherson is down.. not so about all the rest of the ticket.
btw,, now ya know why I went on vacation at this time..It's hot and humid here in Kona. no chills here. :-)
Why would anyone have believed there ever were coattails?
It's counterintuitive...
Arnie slides to the left to get democrat votes and those voters are going to vote for those who still promote Republican ideals?
Does not compute!
It was a nice tale spun by the big-tent spinmeisters.
Cash and advertising would have pulled them over the edge--something they did very little of.
So much for Dan Schnur's coattail theory. Bah!
Schnur's theory was garbage from the beginning, IMO. See above.

Indeed. I'm pissed. We've got gazillions in newly approved bonds, two millionaire RINOs, and no eminent domain protection nor parental rights over their children. Whooptie-doo.
and you expected? (ducks)
And he is an incumbant, no less. If that only mods can win argument is true, he should be cruising to re-election.
any reports of the actual turn-out statewide?

Chuck Reed, a person I voted for who actually won! Amazing, ain't it? :-/
I also voted for Dolores Carr for DA of Santa Clara County and she's won that race too, so I actually have 2 out of, what, 14 races if results hold? Yeeeech.

In a year when Republicans struggled nationwide, Schwarzenegger avoided the same fate by positioning himself as an ``Arnold Republican'' -- a bipartisan deal maker with strained ties to the Bush White House. The actor-governor was also blessed with a lusterless opponent who failed to energize his own party, even in a state known as a Democratic stronghold.
``The real key to this race began last year when the governor said, `I'm learning, I haven't done everything right,' '' said Schwarzenegger's strategist Matthew Dowd.

I saw Carr interviews a couple times, I wish her well. She got my vote too.
It's tough when your own party works against its own platform.
---
What platform? seriesly..
I wanted to believe. It was a rather seductive notion, I wanted to see Republicans make gains, and believe had less time been squandered on pumping up the psychotic slate of bonds and just a bit on the down-ticket Republicans, things may have gone differently.
When McClintock said he and Arnold were running as a ticket, or expressed that Arnold had supported him with 10 fundraising appearances, I took that as evidence the down-ticket were getting important support.
With McClintock seemingly out of it, we'll be back to square one to challenge Tony Villar in 2010 for governor. Poinzer is mush, a billionaire "moderate" Republican so two "moderates" won, zero conservatives.
Unless Al Queda does some urban renewal in L.A., I don't see CAGOP rebounding with any strength.
