BUSH: FOES WILL TAX YOU FROM CRADLE TO THE GRAVE

Democrats will stop at nothing to hike taxes - even trying to seize hard-earned dollars "when you die," President Bush needled yesterday in his final pre-election push to rally the GOP faithful.

"The Democrat philosophy is this: If it breathes, tax it, and if it stops breathing, find its children and tax them," Bush said to laughs at a GOP rally in the Florida panhandle town of Pensacola.

"The Democrats want to raise taxes when you're born, when you're working, when you're retired, and when you die," he charged.

"Our philosophy is, we want you to have more of your own money because we know the tax cuts have worked to keep this economy strong," Bush added.

The president, who spent the past week parachuting into red states to prop up embattled GOP candidates, has continually cast Democrats as in love with taxes and soft on terrorism.

"In our efforts to protect you, Iraq is now the central front," he insisted.

"As you go the polls, remember we are at war and if you want this country to do everything in its power to protect you and at the same time lay the foundation of peace for generations to come, vote Republican," Bush urged.

Democrats have spent millions on TV ads in an attempt to turn the elections into a referendum on Bush and the Iraq war - and party operatives say Bush was helping them nationalize the elections with his closing campaign blitz across the country.

But polls, which had shown Democrats ahead and poised for a sweeping takeover, have tightened considerably in recent days.

"The president's travels are part of the difference," White House press secretary Tony Snow said.

These speeches on taxes, security etc resonate around the country! The President did a tremendous job of driving these points home. Great article/interview with Karl Rove by Hugh Hewitt on Townhall.com. A must read, if you haven't already.

They will tax me from cradle to the grave?

Um, they already do. And there's no indication that's going to change.

Next on the dem horizon - an impact fee for childbirth. Make parents pay up front for the'social costs' and the 'environmental impact' of having a baby, then make abortions tax deductible. After all, it's to save the planet. And it fits with their mindset.

"Um, they already do. And there's no indication that's going to change."

Got to pay that additional $2 trillion in public debt and the $8 trillion Part D drug plan somehow....

They're already taxing the DOD budget to pay for new social programs.

At best, it can be said that the Republicans aren't as bad as the Democrats on those issues.

I attended this rally yesterday. It was my first political rally and I thought it was great. It was interesting seeing all the secret service guys swarming the place, even in the rafters. I wonder how long it takes them to master their "game face" for these things...all the secret service agents looked ready to pounce.

The highlight was being less than 10 feet away from the President during his speech and listening to Jeb introduce him.
