In most midterm elections, an out-of-power party picking up, say, 14 seats in the House and five seats in the Senate could call it a pretty good night.

Schumer's body language and mannerisms were defeatist in there attitudes.
Pelosi, the hairy one, has been off radar mostly, she is betting on a stacked deck of scandal and apathy to bring her SF values to Pennsylvania avenue...

Republicans, of course, may have decided that they have a Machiavellian interest in setting up Democrats with inflated expectations....From a communications standpoint, the Democrats have done a lousy job managing expectationsBwahahaha. Gasp. Bwahahaha. Some of us around here have been saying this for MONTHS. Managing expectations is what puts the magnificent in RYMB. (Good think they've got some education or I might think they were, well, not that smart and didn't study and do their homework. Bwahahaha.)

Isn't the average midterm pickup for the minority party something like 25 House seats?

The political parties are both becalmed because there's no longer any real consensus in America. The Dems were hoping that the many people who dislike Iraq would suddenly ignore the rest of the liberal agenda and vote anti-Republican for that reason. Some will, but they forget that the people making the most noise are often the active but inconsequential minority... c'est la vie with democracy.

Schumer's body language and mannerisms were defeatist in there attitudes.Howard Dean on Gretta looked like a stiff robot. He barely moved a muscle. The only thing he moved was his eyebrows. No, he wasn't at all enthusiastic. He was struggling to hide a lot! Somebody coached him not to move anything but his lips. Even my husband noticed.

Now that statement from the NYT is outrageous.
CNN and MiseryNBC have been schilling for terrorists and the Dhimmicrats for two months now.The NYT has subverted the GWB administration's efforts and put the nationa at risk. And now the NYT is blowing this fairy cake up it's readers backsides?
Nonsense, the old grey lady either needs Jack Welch to purchase it or it needs to take a dirt nap.
One of the Two.

Where his eyelids fluttering?A lot. I mentioned it to my husband. He kept blinking.
He used his eyebrows when he wanted to empathize something. He was trying not to, though. He couldn't help it.
Other than that, he was as stiff as a board.
He may lose his job this election. The Republicans must be doing better than we thought.

With Dean it is the meds, the dems cannot risk another "yeeeeaaaahhhhhhaa" moment so it's the prozac and the lithium for him when speaking on camera.

With Dean it is the medsHis speech was coherent. He was deliberately trying not to move a muscle. It was weird like his whole body was paralyzed except for a little bit of eye movement and his mouth. It was pretty strange.

The NYSlimes is definitely lowering expectations here, so that if the dems do ANYTHING it'll look like a win.

The House # is probably about right, but 20 in the Senate has to be a typo. In any event, your point is well taken.

Interesting that Schumer would be under such stringent physical control...It tells me that they've been told not to do ANYTHING in these last hours, even communicate something through non-verbal communication, which might offend voters. Of course, what they communicated is that they're scared flipless.
