LONDON: One of Britain's leading medical colleges is calling on the health profession to consider permitting the euthanasia of seriously disabled newborn babies.
The proposal by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology is a response to the number of such children surviving because of medical advances.
The college is arguing that "active euthanasia" should be considered for the overall good of families, and to to spare parents the emotional burden and financial hardship of bringing up the hardest-hit babies.
"A very disabled child can mean a disabled family," the doctors say.
"If life-shortening and deliberate interventions to kill infants were available, they might have an impact on obstetric decision-making, even preventing some late abortions, as some parents would be more confident about continuing a pregnancy and taking a risk on outcome."

One step at a time, friend.... One step at a time.
The ghouls on the left salivate over killing even more innocent members of society, whose only crime was a desire to live. Every member of the ghoulish left should have to suffer the same fate they so easily dispense on others. But then again, only they have the right to decide who should live or die (sarcasm).
Who decides what's "too" diabled and why stop at babies? Maybe we should sift through society and "weed out" those who are "too" disabled.
Don't forget the elderly. Over 65? No longer productive? Guess what... You get to report to the local "free" clinic for the same cocktail they currently give to condemned prisoners. I've been saying this for decades, now.
Nah. They have to wait until the parents no longer productive (i.e. not paying taxes) and have "poor quality of life." THEN they'll off 'em.
If fact, in some places (Netherlands) they're already doing just that...
Back when I was an undergraduate at Princeton I took one of his classes. I asked him a tough question and he visibly started to panic.
Don't worry about fools such as Singer. they are puny mortals worthy only of pity. In a way, I'm actually thankful that the university hired him, he is fun to tease ;)
