Chris Matthews just couldn't wipe that grin off his face. Interviewing him on this morning's 'Today,' Meredith Vieira began by suggesting that despite the tough electoral environment for Republicans, polls over the weekend were showing movement in their direction. She started to pose a question, but so distracting was Matthews' mugging that she couldn't continue, asking instead "why are you smiling?"
Replied Matthews:
"Because I think it's going to be a wipe-out. I think the Democrats are going to carry the House by 20-some, high-20s and I think the Senate seats are perhaps not six, but five, and I can see a big victory for the Democrats."
Video here.
Matthews went on to sound a cautionary note to Dems about not dancing in the end zone. And no doubt he would seek to explain his smile and response as reflecting his amusement at the suggestion that the election might be close, not his satisfaction with the anticipated outcome. But does anyone believe he would have been equally gleeful had he been convinced Republicans were heading toward a big victory?

A-HAA!!
What about a hacking, though? I'll try to find that thread.
He would be partially correct. The picture of the troops responding to Kerry appeared on Freerepublic.com within 30 minutes of first being posting on 620wtmj.com, my hometown local talk radio station in milwaukee. I did not post the picture on Freerepublic.com that morning, but I was listening to the radio show and thought Drudge might be interested so I sent it to him. Within 13 minutes of my sending it to Drudge, it was at the top of his site, and the rest is history. Just like in 'Memogate', Freepers have made an impact on the political process in the last two elections, and we should all be thankful for that.
Stay tuned.

It also makes a great bumper sticker. check them all out here:

French media do not report on what is happening in their own country. The recent bus burning in Marseilles was given more coverage than the daily car and bus-burnings in Paris, Lyons and other large towns, because a 26 year old woman, a graduate student in science, was burned over 70% of her body and is presently fighting for her life in hospital.
The young woman is black, but as the young man who came to her aid said, "She looked white; her skin had peeled off from the flames."
Matthews on a show a few months back seemed to relish the idea of defeat in Iraq. He mused openly, dreamily, of our troops "gonna have to shoot their way out Iraq," and appeared immensely satisfied at the prospect.
Matthews went into the Peace Corps to avoid the draft, and like many of his type, considered the fall of Saigon a vindication for their cowardice and rerfusal to serve.
The picture of people scrambling to get on the helicopter as it lifted off the embassy roof is iconic for the Left.
Though our military never lost a battle in Vietnam our political class insured defeat, and that picture, blown up to poster size hung on the office walls, and may still hang there of many of our politicians in Washington. It was and is a favorite poster of the journo-political-professariat hate-America class.
Matthews longs to see our troops ordered away from Iraq and have to fight their way out. It is a yearning so strong he cannot temper his speech out of a decent regard for their safety.
To have a new poster of an American defeat would be for Matthews' a personal coup.
FYI, GLGB is going to Iraq this week! He'll sending updates.
Mark, good work, as usual.
See my post #127 on this thread.
The Detroit News shows, front page, the reaction of the Iraqis in Dearborn, Michigan to the news of Saddam's death sentence.
They flooded the streets, cars honking, people dancing in the streets, shopkeepers tossing candy to the children, music blaring; they waved American flags and the flag of the new democratic country of Iraq, its freedom purchased with the blood of Americans, Englishmen, Poles, Italians, and many others in the coalition, as well as many, many Iraqi citizens.
Have you seen any of this jubilation on American TV? Did anyone on the Today Show happen to mention it? Did Chris Matthews mention it?
Thanks for all your good work. b.
I'm glad he is smiling now, because this moron will have a stunned look on his face in about 36 hours. He and his ilk will suffer one more setback, one more wising-up moment, and of course will have to marshal all their resources to figure out how to explain it and who to blame it on.
Sounds like George Tenet's "It's a slam dunk!"
"I have this poop-eating grin on my face 'cuz Nanny Pelosi is squeezing my cahonies as hard as she can."
"Matthews: I'm smiling because I'm a RETARD!"
Mary Matlin is a Republican. She worked for W's dad when he was the president, and she is no liberal. she must however be blind or suffer from masochism.....
Is this the same guy that went into therapy after the last election?
I wonder if his hospital room is reserved in advance.

Old, retired and forgetful.
I heard him on a call-in call a year or two ago when some entertainer passed away. It was difficult to listen. Aging is not kind to many.
Who cares? Why would any sane person watch this biased jerk?
