CA: High Fire Danger Into Monday ~ Santa Ana Winds again for Southern California....
Accuweather ^ | Sunday, November 05, 2006 3:57 PM | Accuweather forcasters and NWS

****************************************

The two-week anniversary of the deadly Esperanza fire is still a few days away, but already Southern California will have to deal with another round of Santa Ana winds. As an upper-level ridge of high pressure builds into the Southwest, the north to northeast winds circulating around the ridge will blow offshore tonight and into Monday. With the winds gusting up to 40 mph over the mountains and through the passes and canyons, any fire that starts could quick spread. In addition, the extremely dry and warm conditions created by the Santa Ana winds (Downtown Los Angeles looks to crack the 90-degree mark on Monday) will put the region at even more risk for wildfires to spark and grow quickly.

Warm weather on the way according to this national picture:

Plains Late-Summer Warmth

Updated: Monday, November 06, 2006 10:19 AM

*********************************

************************************

Very warm air will build into the Plains Monday into Tuesday. This is due, in large part, to a northward shift in the main jet stream, setting up a strong westerly flow. Temperatures will slowly climb today and it will really get warm on Tuesday. Highs will range from as much as 30 degrees above average in the northern Plains to 10 degrees above normal in parts of the more temperate southern Plains areas. Even on Wednesday, despite the passing of a cool front in the northern areas, it will still run 10-20 degrees above average.

It is bone-dry out here in Boulevard, I get a lot static electricity from touching anything metal.

Rialto -- that pallet company sure has a lot of fuel.

The woman talking on the phone a minute ago said their whole tract has been ordered evacuated. (KTTV)

They showed the fire start area. It was on the east side of the 15 freeway.

Where is 101 at Liberty Cyn? Agoura Hills?

Propane tanks exploding in the pallet yard. FF also worried about ammonia tanks exploding and causing a public hazard.

Suspicious start point for a fire.

I took my wife to the range yesterday. It was 45 degrees with a 15 knot wind. I started by sighting in the scope on th e 17M2. It was holding a 1/2" group at 50 yards. My wife continued to shoot 3 more targets at 50 years with about 1" groups...her first time using a scoped rifle. My next "adventure" was lighting off some rounds of 500 S&W in a T/C Encore Katahdin rifle (20" barrel). Lots of boom and not the kind of accuracy I expected out of the box. Finally, I finished adjusting the scope on the Savage 12VLP (Ruger 204) at 50 yards. One fat hole at 50 yards. BTW, the 100 yard berms were all occupied in spite of the "bad" weather.

We are enjoying fires in the wood burning stove in the evenings this week. Rain and snow showers are in the forecast toward the end of the week.
