Sen. Lincoln Chafee Now Leads Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse by 1% (New Poll
MSNBC | Nov 5, 2006

Posted on 11/05/2006 12:09:25 PM PST by Laissez-faire capitalist

Just saw it a little while ago on MSNBC. Lincoln Chafee, according to a new McClatchy poll, leads Sheldon Whitehouse (D) by 1%, 46% to 45%.

Kyl is ahead by 7%.

Steele is virtually tied with Ben Cardin (D). 47 to 44%

Burns has made a major comeback and is now tied with Democrat Jon Tester.

Corker is ahead by 12%.

Webb and Allen are tied.

Get out and vote! The Dems haven't won. Not by a long shot.

I read on another thread that Mark Kennedy is in single digit territory now behind Klobochar. It appeared to be a total blowout for weeks. Do you know anything about that race to fill Dayton's seat?

What you say is true BUT ...
Chaffee is a vote *against* filibuster, any lib Dem is a vote *for* filibuster. Key point.

PLUS ... the Senate hangs in the balance, if a Chaffee loss means that Schumer, Leahy and Kennedy run the judicial nominations process, is that a tolerable thing?

"The question is who gets Senate Majority Leader"

If we dont win enought seats, that would be Harry Reid.

If we do, the front-runner is Mitch McConnell. Good guy.

I think Mitch McConnell would be a much more effective Majority Leader than Frist is.

Nothing to add but a plea for every Freeper to get out and VOTE this Tuesday. There's no liberal landslide-in-waiting, unless we let it happen by staying home on Election Day!

He might not vote for them, but he won't fillibuster them... Whitehouse definitely will. I hate Chafee as much as the next honest conservative, but if I was in RI, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the lever for him.

I am rooting for Lincoln Chafee. Can't believe I said that.

Me too, and I can't believe that I agree. One more Johnnie Walker Black and I will be mellow enough to really believe that I agree... maybe two... or more...

Can you imagine the agony of having a 50/50 Senate (which is the only reason to have Chafee) and then see him switch sides.

Didn't we already have that 50/50 and yet, Chafee didn't switch party despite strong efforts by Dims to persuade him? I know he's a liberal. But he has consistently voted for Republican leaderships in the senate. Unless we want to have Senate Judiciary Chairman, Pat Leahy, I prefer Chafee win.

Quite so.

I hope Lincoln Chafee pulls this one out.

Buyer's remorse is a bad thing. And the momentary "take that" many Conservatives want to give Chafee after the election is going to be a minimal and short-lived delight compared to the years of agony Leahy will give them.

Vote Lincoln Chafee,
He's a no brainer! (Oops, I mean IT'S a no-brainer!)

:-)

You guys need to consider the national trend of what this poll is revealing. Down double digit points according to the media and now the guy looks like he's turned it around in days.

Sorry, Rhode Island is a small state but there's no way something like this happens due to good campaigning.

The only conclusion one can draw is that even in a 'rat dominated state of registrants, the Republicans are not only closing, they are moving and moving hard.

Thank you Jon Carry. Halp us indeed!

Guys,

I agree with you both, I believe we will hold the Senate, but if Chaffee wins, The way I see it, he owes the GOP, GWB, and us BIG TIME.

I mean even more than Specter owed us, He came thorugh with how he chaired hearings, but Chaffee better vote 70+% w/ the Conservatives or he truly is an ungreatful dolt.

Didn't we already have that 50/50 and yet, Chafee didn't switch party despite strong efforts by Dims to persuade him?

Uh, no, not exactly. What happened was, Jeffords and Chafee drew straws to see who it would be, and Jeffords "won". Had Jeffords not switched first, Chafee would have. He was more valuable to the Dems as a Republican, once Jeffords switched. After the GOP got the Senate back in 2002, his vote wasn't needed any more. But if it is, Harry knows he's got it.

Hell, the man didn't even vote for George W. Bush as president. That was a signal right there as to which party he supports in his heart, and which he would support if it came to it. Aren't the people on this site the first to tell you that a vote for a third party, or staying home, is the same as supporting the Dems? Well, that's what Chafee did. A vote for Bush 41 (which is what Chafee claims he did, although I don't believe him) is the same as a vote for Kerry, right? So, Chafee supported John Kerry winning in 2004. Yeah, that's the guy I want to vote for. /s

I agree with you that if Chafee would vote for the GOP organizing resolution, then you could hold your nose and vote for him. I am convinced he would not, and so, there remains no reason to keep him there, and give him committee assignments where he can hurt us, as he has with Bolton. Better to get rid of him, and next time, support a RINO who is at least somewhat loyal.

And the Dems lose a seat, because even though LIEberman is probably going to win, he won't be counted as a Dem, in the total count. He, just like Bernie will be counted as an I.

Kennedy V. The Machine

I just saw some “eyes-only” numbers in the Senate race. All I can say is Mark is closing fast. If we keep closing for the next 48 hours at the rate we have for the last two days, Tuesday will be a late night.

You might blow this off . . . if not for the fact that a) the national generic number for Republicans has surged int he last 72 hours, and b) that EVERY SINGLE RACE is rapidly shifting to the GOP.

Are the GOTV efforts in MD significant? I would love to see GOTV combined with black community efforts. The turnout would be astounding!

Even better. The black community was present in the "boiler room" today making the phone calls. It was great.
