Cardin rallies blacks in PG ( Maryland Senate Race )( Dems unhappy )
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | November 3, 2006 | Jon Ward and S.A. Miller

Posted on 11/05/2006 6:57:53 AM PST by george76

Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin yesterday tried to rally support among black Democrats in Prince George's County, while Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele campaigned with county Democratic leaders who broke ranks this week to endorse him.

Mr. Cardin appeared with Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson and about 30 other lawmakers in Hyattsville, aiming to keep a diminishing lead in the polls.

In his first public show of support for Mr. Cardin, Mr. Johnson ...

But the rally turned sour later. State Sen. Nathaniel Exum, Prince George's Democrat, berated Mr. Cardin for excluding him and other local delegates from speaking or being mentioned.

"You do the same [stuff] over and over again, just ignore us," Mr. Exum yelled at Mr. Cardin after the rally, which was held in Mr. Exum's district.

Mr. Cardin shrugged off the incident.

"I think he's upset that we didn't go over the names, but I'm not too concerned about it," Mr. Cardin said. "He's supporting us."

As long as Mr. Exum stays on the Dem plantation, they'll expect him to carry their water. Wise up, black Democrats. The Republicans freed the slaves 141 years ago, and it's time you start thinking and acting as free men.

Just days after Rep. Ben Cardin won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Maryland, we've found the secret blog of a female Cardin staffer who has quite a bit to say about race, gender, and creepy old Jewish guys...

It's not quite Washingtonienne, but Cardin's mystery staffer, known as Persuasionatrix, is dishing some anonymous dirt that's sure to leave a black eye on the campaign...

I have family up there in Prince George's County and Jack Johnson is widely - and justly - known as a thoroughly corrupt, Third World-type politician. He is the personification of bringing the failed model of local government from D.C. across the border into Maryland. Johnson and his crew have only one card to play - the race card - and they do it shamelessly. Johnson then uses his power and position to install his cronies into highly-paid government jobs for which they have absolutely zero qualifications. Actual long-term qualified county employees are leaving in droves. It's fitting that Cardin finds support among these crooks.

"I think he's upset that we didn't go over the names, but I'm not too concerned about it," Mr. Cardin said. "He's supporting us."

That just about says it all concerning how Democrats view their "kept" constituency.

“It’s unfortunate that the Congressman didn’t find any time to explain how he ignored Prince George’s County African American leaders in his own party again just yesterday, shrugging off State Senator Exum who confronted the Congressman for ignoring him in his district.”

Cardin yesterday tried to rally support among black Democrats

Too little, too late?

Senate rivals blast Cardin for passing on NAACP debate in Charles County
Friday, Oct. 27, 2006
By Alan Brody
Staff Writer

Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin skipped a scheduled three-way NAACP-sponsored debate in Waldorf on Thursday night, exposing the Democrat to criticism from his U.S. Senate rivals and potentially costing him votes in a swing county.

**SNIP**

‘‘We’re just maintaining our schedule. Michael Steele won’t dictate our schedule,” Shur said of the Republican lieutenant governor and Cardin’s chief foe. Last week, Steele’s campaign issued an e-mail about the debate that said both Cardin and third-party nominee Kevin Zeese were also expected to attend.

In failing to attend the function at New Community Church of God in Christ, Cardin broke a previous pledge to debate ‘‘anytime, anywhere,” said Steele’s spokesman Doug Heye.

The Republican nominee himself was more diplomatic. ‘‘We wish Ben were here,” Steele told reporters after the debate.

Outside, Steele volunteers held ‘‘Where’s Ben?” signs to passing motorists on U.S. 301.

Attendees speculated that Cardin’s decision to stump in Prince George’s may have been an effort to atone for a poor debate performance on Wednesday. During the showdown, Cardin stammered and then refused to answer when pressed by Steele on the location of the Purple Line, a proposed Metro route that would run between Bethesda and New Carrolton.

**SNIP**

The largely African-American crowd embraced Steele, cheering loudly as he entered the room before the debate.

**SNIP**

‘‘For him not to come here and let [Democratic] voters maybe be influenced by Michael Steele ... might have an adverse effect for him,” he said. ‘‘Some African-Americans might be influenced by the fact that there is a black face running for the Senate seat.”

Zeese, who is running under the Green, Populist and Libertarian party banners, agreed.

‘‘It’s kind of a diss to the African-American community in this county,” he said. ‘‘... I think this was political suicide for Ben Cardin.”

Without Cardin, the debate was an amicable exchange between Steele and Zeese, who answered a wide range of questions for more than an hour.

Ehrlich and Steele are surging in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties. This can potentily help John White carry the third district congressional district. The NRCC just dumped some cash in that race.

yeah,
This seat is not under anyone's radar, but White could very well pull it off. Ehrlich won this district by 13% in 02. This guy is a rock soldid border security conservative.

Does Cardin frequently scoff at protocol? Not even mentioning the Senator's name at an appearance in the Senator's own district? Maybe it was an oversight...

Cause I cannot see Cardin continuing to make friends and influence people if this has become his standard MO.

Anyway, this bad news is good news for us.
