Did he really? Oh .. just perfect. That traitor ... wonder how any US troops protecting him handled it without wanting to strangle him.

Everyone's in their locked homes, etc. ... a few shots nothing more .. there's an eerie silence across the heart of the capital.

The curfew is extended until further notice .. in a state of martial law.

Yes, the things Saddam did to his own people, even to his own STAFF, were more brutal and inhumane than anything.

Oh, and he definitely had PLENTY of chemical and bioweapons. And plenty of time to get rid of them before we got there.

That means December 15th then at the latest.

No. That means December 15 at the earliest. 2007 is a lot more likely than this year. It depends on how long the appeals process takes (and Saddam not winning on appeal).

Quote: “I will die with honor and with no fear, with pride for my country and my Arab nation but the U.S. occupiers will leave in humiliation and defeat,” they quoted Saddam as saying. “They will see rivers of blood for years to come. It will dwarf Vietnam.”

Didn't he say something about "Nanci Pelosi will see to it!" at the end or something? (not, but could be)

Saddam Hussein "condemned to died by hanging"

BAGHDAD - former president Saddam Hussein "was condemned to died by hanging" Sunday by the High Iraqi penal court, for his responsibility in the execution for 148 inhabitants Shiites for the village for Doujaïl in the years 1980, in reprisals with an attack against his convoy.

Saddam Hussein constantly tried to stop judge Raouf Rachid Abdel Rahmane at the time of the statement of the verdict, by shouting "long life in Iraq". It appeared obviously shaken by the judgment.

The statutes of the court envisage an automatic procedure of appeal in the event of death sentence, which could push back several weeks or several months the execution of the verdict.

The High penal court followed the requisitions of the prosecutor Jaafar Al-Moussaoui, who had asked on 19 for June the death penalty against the former strong man of Iraq, 69 years old.

Saddam Hussein, who directed the country of an iron hand of 1979 until her fall in April 2003, and seven former persons in charge for her mode, are continued for the massacre of 148 villagers Shiites of Doujaïl, killed in reprisals after an attack missed against the former president in 1982.

The A death penalty also be marked against a half-brother of Saddam Hussein, Barzan Al-Tikriti, former owner of the information.

The former vice-president, Taha Yassin Ramadan, were condemned to the prison with life.

Strangely enough, we aren't hearing anything right now.

The Iraqis around us are happy, but seem to be a little stunned. Perhaps it needs to sink in. Americans are celebrating with high fives and whoops. (That's why I was away from the keyboard for a bit.)

They have to carry this out within 30 days.

Hang him from the crossed swords! (Right around the corner from me.)

Saw the clip on al Jazeera of Ramsay Clark being kicked out of the courtroom. It was priceless!!

I think that's why he ought to be hanged. Because he IS a mass murderer, torturer and mad despot.
