Islamic Front Group CAIR has been busy confusing hate crimes (which in US still require underlying crime) with Free Speech, which while not an unlimited right (no direct/imminent threats/incitement of violence; no cry Fire in crowded theatre; no profanity) is otherwise protected by the U.S. Constitution and according to long established U.S. case law.
The law of Free Speech is that the government may place content neutral restrictions on speech (parade permits) but that it can not control or criminalize mere opinion no matter how unpopular.
Notwithstanding these long established free speech protections the lard bottomed squeeky voiced islamic apologists from CAIR in a Nov. 1 press release attacked the following events, and lumped them into a hate crime /Islamophobia diatribe and appealed for US "governmment action" because:
1. The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) reported that a county commissioner in Florida said Tuesday that he agrees with a letter his wife wrote to a local newspaper calling Islam a "hateful, frightening religion."
2. In Missouri, a top Baptist leader in that state told 1,200 convention delegates: "Today, Islam has a strategic plan to defeat and occupy America." He said Muslims are planning to take over America one city at a time, starting with Detroit. "They are trying to establish a Muslim state inside America, and they are going to take the city of Detroit back to the 15th century and practice Sharia (or Islamic) law there."
3. In Pennsylvania, Sen. Rick Santorum compared the Islamic concept of "Jihad" to Nazism. "Mein Kampf means struggle; jihad means struggle," said Santorum.
("Jihad is a central and broad Islamic concept that includes struggle against evil inclinations within oneself, struggle to improve the quality of life in society, struggle on the battlefield by using a standing army for national defense, or fighting against tyranny or oppression," CAIR editorialized)
4. In New York, Rep. Peter King claimed the vast majority of mosques in his state and nationwide are being run by "radicals." In California, a Muslim candidate for the Anaheim City Council was labeled "anti-American" by his Republican opponents. In Wisconsin, a congressional candidate questioned about his call for profiling of Muslims suggested looking for anyone who is "wearing a turban and his name is Muhammad." And in Minnesota, another candidate for Congress said that "as a Jew" he is offended by his Muslim opponent's candidacy.
Last week, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said that dialogue with American Muslims is a "pipe dream" because "there's nobody to talk to." Last month on his "700 Club" television program, Pat Robertson called the Quran "fraudulent."
The Anti Americans running CAIR, demonstrated their complete misunderstanding of America's free speech tradition by calling specifically on Government leaders, to denounce each of these examples of Americans expressing their opinions without harming or threatening to harm anyone.

You're quite right. too bad wobblies like Savage dont realize being equivocal in supporting republicans can lead directly to reimposition of fairness doctrine and other affronts to Constitution/Free Speech, already widespread in Europe.
I've been saying this all along.
Someday, men might wake up and have to be very, very careful what they say.
Women might wake up to find they are being treated little better than a farm animal.
Where's the Gloria Steinems of the world when you really need them?
"already widespread in Europe."
We've got a good example of self-censorship (due to political correctness)
in our fair neighbor to the north:
Anybody out there seen my book?

Mark Steyn: Anybody Out There Seen My Book? You won't sell my book in Canada? Why, I'm flattered

Because the internet will be needed all the more to be the foundation of keeping freedom alive.
Another term for the usual gang of CAIR idiots is Islamonazi brown shirts.
Our "leaders" must even now be fighting off the temptation to find some way of using this as an excuse to further muzzle citicism of their useless Washington asses by fed up Americans...
We are the morons for not running them out of this country on a rail (after tar and feathers)
CAIR can kiss my butt. It seems to me, by their own actions, that they are huge supporters of the terrorists.

It looks like CAIR has been watching what has been going on in Canada for the last several years regarding their ridiculous "hate speech" laws.

WRKO radio today fired loose-lipped talk jock John DePetro for calling Green Party gubernatorial candidate Grace Ross a fat lesbian on his morning show yesterday.
F--- Gloria Steinem! When the ayatollahs seized control of Iran in 1979 and forced western-dressing women into chadors, Steinem applauded this as a way of hiding women's bodies from the prying eyes of men.
I hope the rocks fall on Steinem!
):^(
CAIR is the ACLU disguised in a burka.
Bad example, I guess, but UknowwhutImean.
Awhile ago I was in a Wal-Mart and saw what I can best describe as an elderly grandmotherly type Afro-American complainin about a refund.
