Fox & Friends (Lieberman may caucus with the GOP)
3 November 2006 | Erik Latranyi

Fox & Friends this morning are reporting that Lieberman may caucus with the GOP if he wins re-election to the Senate from Connecticut as an Independent.

This may be the reason why Bush and many prominent Republicans are singing the praises of Senator Joe Lieberman.

Lieberman was on Imus this morning. Among things he said:

I am disappointed in Chris Dodd. I will be very independent if reelected. I will remember those who were against me. I will remember those who supported me.

He made a joke about Dodd. Speaking of jokes, he came down really hard on Kerry. About the joke, Dodd had said he planned to take a food tster the next time he had lunch with Lieberman. Liberman said he planned to take Don Corleone.

...and a vote for Lamont is a vote for national security?

I'm trying to understand, here?

You misunderstand. Voting for Lieberman would be as much a disaster as voting for Lamont. Both are Democrats and want the Democrats to take control of Congress which we all know would destroy our national security and the country. For some inexplicable reason the RINO's in Connecticut prefer to vote for Lieberman despite the above fact and the fact he voted against the Secure Fence Act, instead of voting for their own candidate who is as strong if not stronger on national security than socialist Joe!

But as long as you support war in Lebanon, war in Iraq and a "war-fighting Republican Party," in The Weekly Standard's phrase, you get a pass on everything else. Beat the drum for permanent war for global democracy and against Islamo-fascism, and all other sins are forgiven you.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my position. Except I don't think the war has to be permanent. 100 years ought to be enough. Less if we use nuclear weapons.

But unless we stuff these Islamic jihadis back in their box, nothing else is going to matter.

Sounds good. Do whatever it takes.

America aligned herself with Stalin to defeat the immediate threat of Hitler's Nazis...I think we can deal with the threat of Joe back in the senate.

"Lieberman just said he would caucus with the dems..."

What I heard him say was that he [had] said he would caucus with the Dems to keep his seniority. He was not allowed to follow through because Imus move away from the subject. That's the way I saw it.

And the basis of this speculation is...?

My guess is that the Hard Left/Lamont headquarters started the rumor and FOX is aiding and abetting trying to hurt Leiberman whether intentionally or not by repeating it.

Leiberman with not caucus with the GOP. Nor do I want him to. We have too many Liberals.

All I want from Leiberman is for him to continue to take the Leftists to task on the war, support more Dems that will mirror his stance on the war within the party.

If anything else comes of it, like the occasional getting back at the people that backstabbed him vote and we benefit...great. But I'm not expecting it.

I'm in NY. My republican vote for senate won't even count...because of 'the beast'...you wanna talk frustration...

Republicans in Connecticut must maintain views similar to say, a democrat in Georgia...It's the way of the world; it's reality.

It only becomes a reality if you let it become one. Your defeatist attitude is pathetic. It's amazing to me , as an independent, the Republican party can be such wimps when it comes to standing up to the Democrats. You let them walk all over you. If George Washington had your attitude he never would have crossed the Delaware and we would still be living under British rule.

Although Lieberman is quite a leftist, it is possible he might side with the GOP sometimes but not most of the time. I think Lieberman does symbolize that dissent is possible (though not easy) on the left. I would rather the Republican win but if that does not happen, I would prefer someone to win who is a leftist but not a raving moonbat. For all their talk of "diversity," anyone who differs on one pet far-left issue is demonized. What the left desperately needs are people who can think independently rather than be Kucinich, Kennedy, Pelosi etc. moonbats.

Yeah, he'll caucus with which ever side wins.

No, it really isn't true about Chafee. He votes with us far more often than people give him credit for. Of course, if he did jump to the Democrats, he'd change his voting record to be more like a Boxer clone.

That's a contradiction! They are one and the same.

Always thought they might offer him a committee leadership position if he caucases with them. Lovely taste of the Dems own medicine.

I wonder where Fox got this info because it seems like a Dem ploy to keep liberals from voting for him in Conn.

Were you replying to the content of my post, or just riffing off of it to post about Lamont? No offense, but I don't follow the connection. I was talking about Chafee.

Did you hear the story about how Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ) is trying, this week, to eliminate the program where military voters overseas were going to cast their votes by secure e-mail? If Holt is successful in having this programmed stopped, there will be no way for military voters to get absentee ballots in time, and it will be impossible for the soldiers to vote in this election.

No, I hadn't heard that. I'll look into it and get it to Jim Quinn (quinn@warroom.com) and others in the media if it is true. That sucks.
