LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - A self-described methamphetamine addict said he doesn't know anything about the classified Los Alamos National Laboratory data that authorities found in the mobile home where he was staying.

"I was basically at the wrong place at the wrong time," Justin Stone, 20, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from jail.

FYI--

The recurring lack of adult supervision apparently continues from the University of Kallyfornia...[ why are they still in charge? ]

"I am shocked that in this day and age you can still have memory sticks," said Pete Stockton, a senior investigator with the Project on Government Oversight, a Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group. "This is how many years after Wen Ho Lee?"

Lee, a former lab scientist, pleaded guilty in 2000 to a single count of mishandling nuclear secrets. He had transferred information needed to design computer simulations for nuclear explosions to pocket-size portable computer tapes so he could have backup copies. He said he later threw the tapes away in a lab trash bin.

Yawn... Last weeks news to us out here. Same old sloppy accountability for classified info. Nothings changed from the Clinton years. It was better when you couldn't go up the hill to the town -- it was all off limits until the fifties and the single road had a guardshack.

Did you read the full article? It has some new details that I know I had not heard previously.

And the good news?

"Anastasio has ordered lab officials to immediately take steps to improve security, including making sure that classified materials can't be downloaded to unauthorized devices."

What a standup man, that Anastasio. Good move, long in coming.

And there's no telling that they will be successful at preventing it, either. Their words mean nothing these days.

Back when they were persecuting their own Lab Director from within (because he wanted greater discipline) some of the freaks who work there set up a blog. I must say, things there are far worse in terms of compromised people and Lefty freaks than at any other time in the history of the lab. They should shut it down and open a new one fresh somewhere.
