One of the men in a buzz-generating photograph taken in Iraq is a St. Cloud police sergeant, St. Cloud Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said.
Marty Sayre is one eight soldiers in a photo poking fun at Sen. John Kerry that is making the rounds on the Internet. The photo shows the National Guard soldiers holding a sign that says Halp us Jon Carry we R stuck hear N Irak.
The sign is a riff on comments Kerry made Monday to a group of college students. You study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you dont, you get stuck in Iraq, he said.
The comments immediately became fodder in a heated midterm election battle that has focused on the war in Iraq.
Kerry later said it was a bad joke and apologized to anyone he offended.
Ballantine said he received an e-mail from Sayre, who said he was in the photograph. Sayre wrote that the photo was meant for family and friends and was surprised by the attention it has gotten, Ballantine said.
Ballantine said he was happy to see the photo, because its proof that Sayre is alive and well.
Ballantine also pointed out that Sayre has a bachelors degree.
The mere fact that he was planning to run again is proof positive that he hasn't got a clue. They should make a TV sitcom based on him, that would be funny!
So glad this story has legs.
It's the Left's Achilles heel- they can't laugh at themselves.
"I hope this photo helps us....the Fox News story just on a few minutes ago is grim....basically we will lose 3 seats in the Senate for sure."
Let's just wait and see...I think the GOP is in for a pleasant surprise come 11/7.
Looks a bit like the belly button girl
Isn't this great, Mozie? I am so proud of these guys and gals and so glad one of them was from St. Cloud so the liberal St. Cloud
Times had to cover this. They never would have otherwise.
How are you doing? I know your doc is coming home soon and I'm so glad.
I emailed it to my son who emailed that he had mailed it to his list..that picture lives!..Thank you to the wonderful makers and holders of the banner..You Rock!
God Bless Our Armed Forces and Keep Them Safe
What a wonderful bunch of troops.
I am sure it will serve you honorably and give us Freepers a laugh every time we see it!
They are safe:
Article 88Contempt toward officials
Text.
Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
Elements.
(1) That the accused was a commissioned officer of the United States armed forces;
(2) That the accused used certain words against an official or legislature named in the article;
(3) That by an act of the accused these words came to the knowledge of a person other than the accused; and
(4) That the words used were contemptuous, either in themselves or by virtue of the circumstances under which they were used.
Note: If the words were against a Governor or legislature, add the following element
(5) That the accused was then present in the State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession of the Governor or legislature concerned.
Explanation.
The official or legislature against whom the words are used must be occupying one of the offices or be one of the legislatures named in Article 88 at the time of the offense. Neither Congress nor legislature includes its members individually. Governor does not include lieutenant governor. It is immaterial whether the words are used against the official in an official or private capacity. If not personally contemptuous, ad-verse criticism of one of the officials or legislatures named in the article in the course of a political discussion, even though emphatically expressed, may not be charged as a violation of the article.
Similarly, expressions of opinion made in a purely private conversation should not ordinarily be charged. Giving broad circulation to a written publication containing contemptuous words of the kind made punishable by this article, or the utterance of contemptuous words of this kind in the presence of military subordinates, aggravates the offense. The truth or falsity of the statements is immaterial
It's awesome to see my city and one of our brave heroes as part of this smackdown on Kerry.
I posted the same comment the day this photo came out.
Yrs. ago I do know the senators from each state had great power over military issues.
I do look for something from the left soon pertaining to this photo.
The way it is making its way around the press it's almost as horrendous as the soldiers placing the flag at iwo jima.
Our troops get smarter all the time...
It is our politicians that get dumber.
I offer Sen. John Kerry, (D) Mass as proof.
It just struck me... (D) Mass is awfully close to...
Dumba$$!
Coincidence? I think not.
Very interesting, thank you.
You are kidding. I am speechless! On national TV or just lefty blogs and such?
Minnesota and Jon Carry ping
as Bugs Bunny would say, "What a Maroon"
...and as Daffy Duck would say:
Jon Carry is dethpicable!!!
ROFLMBO! I just had to send that to all my military friends!
