One of the men in a buzz-generating photograph taken in Iraq is a St. Cloud police sergeant, St. Cloud Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said.
Marty Sayre is one eight soldiers in a photo poking fun at Sen. John Kerry that is making the rounds on the Internet. The photo shows the National Guard soldiers holding a sign that says Halp us Jon Carry we R stuck hear N Irak.
The sign is a riff on comments Kerry made Monday to a group of college students. You study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you dont, you get stuck in Iraq, he said.
The comments immediately became fodder in a heated midterm election battle that has focused on the war in Iraq.
Kerry later said it was a bad joke and apologized to anyone he offended.
Ballantine said he received an e-mail from Sayre, who said he was in the photograph. Sayre wrote that the photo was meant for family and friends and was surprised by the attention it has gotten, Ballantine said.
Ballantine said he was happy to see the photo, because its proof that Sayre is alive and well.
Ballantine also pointed out that Sayre has a bachelors degree.
In AZ where it is the victim's fault if he gets shot in a hunting accident.
In the photo of the Marines being accosted by Jon Carry at a Wendy's restaurant before being deployed to Iraq in 2004 -- remember, the Senator was running for president at the time. That knowledge really puts this photo into perspective.
A classic.
Um, what are "Uff Da's"? Or do I want to know?
;^)
About 50 miles.
......It's not a political statement. It's a joke.......
Hmmm Not a call for help, a request for redeployment, a personal plea to Sen Cary?
That's kewl...if you ever get the chance to tell him "Thank you" please say thanks for me and the kids too!
Electing democrats is more important than the safety of our troops.
Wow! Excellent processing, GretchenM. Thanks. Whud'ja use?
(6) Nun of the abuv duz not apply to ennywun stuk in Irak.
The initial thread on FR with this photo had the smaller version. Someone found a larger one and the Mod shuffled things to post the larger photo, deleting the smaller one. I snagged the big one -- can't claim any expertise for making brown eyes blue here. Would be nice if I knew how to take a smaller photo and make it look that good!
Okay, thanks for the reply, GretchenM. I use a few post processing programs on some of my own work, but have never been able to come with that kind of enlargement quality.
You are very right in everything you said!
Thanks for posting that larger photo, so we can make out the faces. May the Lord bless and keep our fine service members safe!
