Kerry's '72 Army Comments Mirror Latest

WASHINGTON (AP) - During a Vietnam-era run for Congress three decades ago, John Kerry said he opposed a volunteer Army because it would be dominated by the underprivileged, be less accountable and be more prone to "the perpetuation of war crimes."

Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran who turned against the war, made the observations in answers to a 1972 candidate questionnaire from a Massachusetts peace group.

After Kerry caused a firestorm this week with what he termed a botched campaign joke that Republicans said insulted current soldiers, The Associated Press was alerted to the historical comments by a former law enforcement official who monitored 1970s anti-war activities

Kerry apologized Wednesday for the 2006 campaign trail gaffe that some took as suggesting U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq were undereducated. He contended the remark was aimed at Bush, not the soldiers.

In 1972, as he ran for the House, he was less apologetic in his comments about the merits of a volunteer army. He declared in the questionnaire that he opposed the draft but considered a volunteer army "a greater anathema."

"I am convinced a volunteer army would be an army of the poor and the black and the brown," Kerry wrote. "We must not repeat the travesty of the inequities present during Vietnam. I also fear having a professional army that views the perpetuation of war crimes as simply 'doing its job.'

If you read the '72 comments in the context of Jon Carry's comments yesterday, it's obvious that he thinks poor, black, and brown people are stupid. He needs to apologize to them also.

I thought I already knew how bad Kerry was...until this article...I did NOT know he said these things.

No..an apology isn't good enough...he needs to resign..(I know it won't happen, in fact, he will probably be re-elected in 2008)...

I apologize to no one, any idiot with a high school education would realize that my comments were merely a botched joke about Lydon Johnson and his failed policy in Vietnam where I got a purple heart you know...

What the US Army recruiting poster under "President" Kerry would look like:

Our brave warriors n Irak respond to Jon Carry"

Kerry is no different re his hatred of a strong America and our warriors than 99.9% of the rats in congress. Every rat running for election should have to face a copy of this banner everytime they show their treasonous faces. Pelosi, Murtha, Clintoon, Boxer, Kennedy, Durbin, Levin, Rangle, Reid and other rats in congress hate our military and a strong America. Just look at their voting records the past two years as President Bush pointed out this week.

Kerry is shown leading his fellow hate America and our military Rats to their final destination in American Politics:

Vote against all traitors this election day. Support our troops and their CIC, President Bush.

He may have said this in 1972 but I think this is expressive of his core beliefs. There are core beliefs that I had in '72 that have shaped my life that I still believe strongly today. Some things never change especially if they have been reinforced over and over again. Kerry's political campaigns where he constantly relives his "heroic glories" both publicly and in the deep reaches of his own mind are just the kind of thing to entrench his beliefs about the military and the war. It's a proven psychological fact that once this happens, it is very nearly impossible to think differently.

Heard this on the MSM last night. This is interesting if it means that some part of the MSM is actually doing research and reporting it even when the results are not favorable to Democrats. Perhaps the tide is continuing to go out for the Liberals.

Maybe they've finally decided JK has to go. All the way out of the senate and the party. Good.

It looks like the democrats are using this to get rid of Kerry as a 2008 presidential candidate because they think he is a proven loser and will just divert money and funds away from other better candidates.

That's true.

I just find it interesting that the Dims always say that they believe in "equal rights" and "diversity", but really, by their statements and behavior, they are inherently racist and elitist.

The American public has been given a glimpse "behind the mask", and Kerry's true feelings and opinions are out there. This latest screw up enables his past statements and behavior to receive more attention, and of course, what they reveal also, isn't pretty.

Yes, many Dims hold our military in the utmost contempt.

With the challenges facing our country today, we need a strong military and a government which respects and supports them. Anything else would be a disaster.
