Coulter voting case to prosecutors?

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Conservative columnist Ann Coulter has refused to cooperate in an investigation into whether she voted in the wrong precinct, so the case will probably be turned over to prosecutors, Palm Beach County's elections chief said Wednesday.

Elections Supervisor Arthur Anderson said his office has been looking into the matter for nearly nine months, and he would turn over the case to the state attorney's office by Friday.

Coulter's attorney did not immediately return a call Wednesday. Nor did her publicist at her publisher, Crown Publishing.

Knowingly voting in the wrong precinct is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Anderson's office received a complaint in February that Coulter voted in the wrong precinct during a Feb. 7 Palm Beach town council election.

Anderson, a Democrat, said a letter was sent to Coulter on March 27 requesting that she clarify her address for the voting records "or face the possibility of her voter registration being rescinded." Three more letters were sent to Coulter and her attorney, but she has yet to respond with the information requested, Anderson said.

In July, Anderson said, he received a letter from Coulter's attorney, Marcos Daniel Jimenez D'Clouet. The letter said the attorney would only discuss the matter in person or by telephone because, he complained, Anderson had given details to the media. Anderson said the matter had to be discussed in writing.

Apparently the only way to be prosecuted for anything in Palm Beach County is to be an outrageous Republican. If I were a Republican in that county, I would seriously consider moving, and taking my money with me!

Don't have a beef with them going after Ann, or President Bush, or even myself if there was a voting violation. But go after everybody else as well.

In fact, make them show just as much ID as they would have to show to collect a Social Security check, or get a job, or travel to Mexico. Any simple photo ID or Social Security Card would do the trick,.

Does AP/Yahoo label ALL of their columnists by political orientation, or just the "conservative" ones?

(ie "Far Left Liberal columnist Molly Ivins proves once again she is dumb as a packet o' snot."

Yeah, I know, old story, and I already know the answer, but the Left's ingrained bias demands a constant return of fire.

How is it possible to vote in the wrong precinct? The precinct workers will direct you to your proper voting booth. They will not allow you to vote in the wrong precinct. At least that's how it works where I vote.

This is absurd.

The LAW provides for provisional ballots. She voted provisionally because she thought she was in the right place.

This is more Palm Beach Selective enforcement. This is going to continue until prosecutors start getting disbarred.

Precinct locations move around a bit.

Her location changed an nobody told her. She went to her routine location and nobody there knew to call "HQ" to find out where she should go.

Precinct workers are not exactly bright, in Palm Beach, some of them can be quite obtuse if you are a Republican.

As I understand it from what has been published.

She lives in one section of town but used a business address as her place of residence and voted at it's polling place. It was she said/somebody said to keep her home address non-public. She did not vote more than once.

That is the usual way its handled here, If you show up at the wrong precinct to vote you are sent to the Provisional Judge. Some people havent the time to make it to their precinct before closing and the provisional judge usually gets busy around closing time.

Heck, if this were a crime in Wisconsin, the whole city of Milwaukee would be behind bars.

Your grammar is a bit unfortunate :) Which was it - you use your business address or you vote only once ?

Agreed, but this is definitely a case of "selective prosecution".

Next thing up: Ann's littering violations.
