KFI in Los Angeles called Kerry's remarks on Imus this morning an apology when he said that he meant no offense to the troops. Someone at Reuters is trying to let Kerry off the hook.
The American Legion, however, is steaming mad.
A source at American Legion headquarters told me that the comments on Imus are not acceptable. He needed to make an apology to the troops that was unequivocal. Unfortunately, he has apparently missed the opportunity. Even if Kerry would actually try to make a real apology now, they would consider it disingenuous.
My source pointed out that the President has an advanced business degree and was allowed to be a military pilot in an F-102. "You don't put those things in the hands of dumb *sses," she said.
Unnamed source pointed out that this is not a joking matter. WE ARE AT WAR! Kerry shouldn't be joking about this stuff. Kerry is doing damage to his country just as he did in Vietnam times. He seems to do it at every opportunity to try to advance himself.
She was really proud of how the troops reacted with the banner seen on Drudge with misspellings to mock Kerry. "They are smart enough and know how to get a joke and create a joke."
Regarding Chris Matthews, the American Legion is firing off a memo to him for calling the reaction from the American Legion a Bush "dog and pony show." No, their reaction was their reaction. They don't get marching orders from the White House.
God bless those risking their lives to protect our country, and God bless those in the American Legion who are standing up tall on this issue.

Unfortuantely he's in till 2010. If he were up for re-election Tuesday, enough Republicans and moderate Dems (if there are any in MA) would be motivated enough to vote him out.

He's done. Not that She Who Must Not Be Named has any different opinions with respect to the troops, but at least she knows (now) what an incredible clunker it is to utter those sentiments publicly. Much as I despise him I don't see BJ Billy making that sort of a catastrophic mistake.
The tape speaks for itself. There isn't any real doubt in my mind at least that Kerry was merely repeating a new version of the old "stay in school and stay out of the rice paddies" canard to what he felt was a sympathetic audience. The number of his acolytes who are now bleating "but it's the truth" indicates to me that it's what he really had intended to say or at least something that they would say themselves.
I am especially enjoying the obvious discomfiture of the many Kerry media shills who are earnestly pretending that that turd floating in the punchbowl was somebody else's mistake. "If it weren't for Bush's failed policies that little nugget wouldn't be bobbing up and down between the lemon slices." You betcha.
Terrorism is not effective unless it is distributed by media AND influences voters.
Matthews will be off the air within a year.

Let us hope those powers that be within the American legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars come down so hard on this pus bag and the L/MSM, and mobilize all good men and women to come to the aid of their country to send the message out big time that the demorats and their leaders like Kerry are bad for this country, period.

The proper thing for him to have done (and it was over with the moment he hollered that he wouldn't apologize, y'know, back before he pretended to apologize) was to say, "I can see how my choice of words could easily have been misinterpreted and offended our troops," and then apologize to them. But he didn't do that, hasn't done it yet, and apparently never will do it. Obviously the pompous windbag, traitor, and demagogue will be let off the hook by those with half a brain (I was assured tonight that anyone with half a brain could tell Kerry was referring to the President; those with all their brains, however, could tell that he wasn't).
The good news is, he may still be the 2008 nominee, and as a born loser, he'll help the Dhimmicrats have their keisters handed to them.
