Boston Herald: Kerry an Embarrassment
The Boston Herald ^ | Wednesday, November 1, 2006 | Boston Herald Editorial Staff

Memo to John Kerry: The best defense isn’t a good offense. As he stumped for California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides at Pasadena City College Monday, the junior senator from Massachusetts said the following:

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

The remark, which first aired on a California TV station (with friends like Kerry, Angelides might as well pack it in now) was offensive beyond belief, not to mention simply wrong.

Kerry should have taken the advice of his one-time friend, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) who yesterday said Kerry “owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education.”

An apology would have been the way to go, but sometimes Kerry just can’t help himself. And so he issued one of his very special non-denial denials saying, “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.”

Huh? The film clip, now up on YouTube, speaks for itself.

The real shame is that while John Kerry stumps around the country, building up chits for his own possible presidential campaign rerun, he still has that D-Mass. after his name. And that’s an embarrassment to the good people of this state who sent him to the U.S. Senate.

"The best defense isn’t a good offense."

What John Kerry mounted wasn't even a good offense. It was simply odious. John Kerry may hate, loath, and despise the entire military culture, and the reasoning behind even establishing a military presence, but so far, he has not come up with anything that is a credible substitute for what only the institutional military corps can do: Show a potential enemy that we can kill them and break all their things if they choose to remain intransigent.

Alexander the Great did not achieve the sobriquet of "the Great" because of his great debating and oratory skills.

He did it mostly by kicking the butt of Darius the Third of Persia well and thoroughly. And that requires a highly disciplined military force, superior technical expertise, and determined leadership.

If a conservative Republican had made a similarly "botched joke" that just happened to echo other noxious statements he made in the past, the MSM would have no trouble whatsoever concluding that it was planned as "a signal" to his extremist supporters or at the very least was a Freudian slip that showed how he really felt.

You just KNOW that would be the story they would write.

Kerry should resign.

No, It's a very good joke - if the audience was limited to Radio America listeners.

The bigger question is when are the good people of Mass. going to stop voting for this jerk along with the next biggest ass in the senate Ted Kennedy?

Good point - what on earth is wrong with Massachusetts? Why so many puffed up blowhards from the same state?

Spread it out; attack any Dem who does not call for his resignation. Run down and get one, or walk down and get 'em all?

Don't get too carried away. Its the Boston Herald, not the Boston Globe. The Herald is the bastard at the family reunion in the MSM pecking order.

Yep, it's pretty hard to excuse the voters of MA when you also consider the other senator they've elected term after term after term.

And that’s an embarrassment to the good people of this state who sent him to the U.S. Senate.

They also keep sending Teddy the K back to the U.S. Senate. Its amazing how one state can have two embarrasing senators like this.
