MEMPHIS Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. issued a statement this morning calling on U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to apologize for comments that Republicans including President Bush contend disparage U.S. troops in Iraq.
Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said, Rep. Ford said. He needs to apologize to our troops.
But Rep. Ford, who served as an honorary co-chairman of Sen. Kerrys 2004 failed presidential bid, said that the senators words dont alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isnt working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms. They deserve a plan for victory as good as they are, and as senator I intend to see they get one.

John Kerry - the skidmark on the shorts of the Dem Party.
His LIPS made him do it!
cool, i'd love to see the heiress pump a couple million dollars into a race for this numbskull before realizing what a big mistake it is.
i'm for a kerry candidacy all the way in '08! i hope he gets the nomination.
There is a new video about Kerry's SNAFU on the GOP web site.

That's not fair to Harold Ford. There's nothing wrong with him running, except he's in the wrong party.
He's running as a Republican for the Democrats. Maybe that'll work. Throwing Kerry under the bus won't hurt.
Hopefully it is toast, but unlike a lot of northeastern and midwestern liberal dems, Harold Ford Jr has something that not a lot of Dems have. Of course, being a southerner, its something common in southerners of either political stripe.... class.
Generalissimo Wesley Clark said Kerry's remark was wrong, but...this morning on FOX. He is a sorry sack of shinola and I don't know from shinola.
Translation: Shut up Kerry because we are not supposed to tell the American people what we really think. Jr. is a fraud and his election would only empower these leftist nutjobs.
Cool. I already called Kerry's office and after 30 rings told the woman I wanted Kerry to apologize but moreso, his resignation.
It would mean something if he said that unless Kerry apologized, he was returning the Kerry Pac contributions to his campaign.
bttt
This has to go down as one of the biggest, and worst-timed, political gaffes in US history.
Another slimy move by Mr. Jr. It amazing how Harold slips and slides to to draw from the popular side of an issue. He should rename himself K.Y.(Jelly) Ford.
We'll find out in a week. If the Dems fall short the same MSM claiming this won't be an issue will point the finger right at Kerry. It'd make the Wellstone funeral debacle seem minor by comparison.
