Kerry-ing on may doom Dems

WASHINGTON - Frustration over the prolonged Iraq conflict exploded onto the political scene yesterday as Republicans pounced on John Kerry for a botched joke and the Democrat slammed back at President Bush's "broken policy." With tensions escalating and the stakes high just a week before the midterm elections, the President led a GOP chorus demanding the Massachusetts senator apologize for a remark about how the uneducated "get stuck in Iraq."

But a furious Kerry refused to back down, saying he would never apologize for taking on the President - and that the criticism against him was orchestrated by "assorted right-wing nut jobs."

Kerry spokeswoman said "Kerry mangled a joke". Kerry said he "botched" a punchline. Kerry claims he meant to insult the Commander in Chief, not soldiers, and by golly, he's not going to apologize. (Chris Matthews and Kerry seem to think insulting the intelligence of a President and Commander In Chief during wartime, is quite all right.)

Kerry's indignant, defiant, non-repentant attitude over what he calls a "mistake' is mind boggling.

Even when they tried to insert the supposed "real" words, it doesn't make any sense. Heck, my 9 yr. old could come up with a more witty joke. You can hear it in his tone of voice and see it in his facial expressions, HE WAS NOT TRYING TO MAKE A JOKE! He is a horrible, horrible excuse for a human being.

Don't they know they are insulting our intelligence?

I believe the Dims don't think we have any intelligence to insult. How else to explain GWB being in the White House instead of JFKerry (who served in Vietnam).

They are, after all, the "smartest people in the world." They tell us all the time....

Republicans pounced on John Kerry for a botched joke

That is an absoulte lie and spin, and the MSM knows it.

The media wonders why its ratings for the network news have fallen 60% in 15 years, and why newspapers are dying?

Kerry (who served in Vietnam) is too STOOPID to resign!

Besides, if you were married to Ta RAY sa, would you want to go home?

Unbiased reporting?

How can it POSSIBLY be that Kerry botched a joke because he did not use ENOUGH WORDS?

"Pained Democrats didn't rush to Kerry's defense.

There's spin right there of the worse kind.

The more powerful, relevant, and so-far neglected story is, the Democratic leadership did not rush to condemn his insults and praise our men and women in uniform.

The Democratic leadership shares Kerry's elitist enmity and disdain for military service and that enmity and disdain are what will guide their decision-making in Congress if they gain control.

An excellent point! So far the only person who has condemned his words as "inappropriate" is the congressional candidate in Iowa who cancelled Kerry's campaign appearance.

Ads should be run asking democrat candidates to condemn Kerry. This should expecially be done in the Senate campaigns.

The timing for this was too perfect.

The real question is massachusetts. This clown (and the tidal pool guy) represents them to the WORLD. Sure they are liberal in taxachusetts, but how many soldiers/marines from that state have died in combat in iraq/afghanistan? If this latest gaffe turns the election to the republicans, what will they be thinking when kerry runs for another 6 year term as senator? Lieberman is sweeping to victory in nearby CT, perhaps the beginning of a trend in the liberal bastion of new england...

You make a brilliant point with

"The more powerful, relevant, and so-far neglected story is, the Democratic leadership did not rush to condemn his insults and praise our men and women in uniform."

Another example of how tolerant Democrats are of one of their own. poster SuzanneC reminded us how intolerant Democrats and the MSM was last week of Rush's comments. Santorum reminded Imus this morning, how intolerant Democrats (and Republicans) were, of Trent Lott's comments that cost him his senate position.

I'm reminded how important a "intentions" are to liberals. Kerry didn't intend to insult soldiers, Clinton didn't intend to hurt his wife and daughter, and Kennedy didn't intend to drown Mary Jo Kopechne. So.....all's forgiven...unless you are a Republican!

I'm telling you: the Democratic leadership's failure to immediately repudiate Lurch's dishonorable, disgusting insults directed at our brave men and women in uniform cannot be excused. It is a powerful, tacit confession of their own attitudes.

Worse for them, they cannot undo their failure now, they cannot reclaim the time they lost by not immediately standing proudly and decisively to support the troops after this assault on them by a Democratic leader.

A particularly egregious example: where is the "soldier's soldier" Jim Webb's denunciation of Kerry??? Webb's former and retired military supporters and enablers in the Republican Party should be outraged by his silence.

The Republicans must go on the offensive NOW and expand this debacle to stain the rest of Lurch's silent co-conspirators in the Democratic leadership and Party. If this issue remains narrowly about Lurch, the Dems will skate again. It isn't just about Lurch. It is about THEM. It is about THEIR elitist didain for and hatred of our brave men and women in uniform!

Please try to get this point to all of the radio hosts and anyone else you can think of. I need to be gone to do volunteer work at my grandkids' school this morning but should be home by 10AM. I will try to contact our local radio guy and get him on this.

I really think you have a good point. In fact, it is such a good point that you should do this as a stand-alone essay. A corollary to this is something that just popped up on Fox, which is that not only was he dissing the troops, but he was dissing anyone who didn't go to college, including a fair number of blue-collar democrats. All of it is symptomatic of his elitist attitude.

However, your point is absolutely a zinger, and should be a stand-alone article in order to get the attention of GOP lurkers, so that it can get into the campaign speeches and ads ASAP.
