George Bush and Dick Cheney have been working overtime (and racking up air miles) to rally conservative stalwarts in the final days before the elections, and on Monday they got a gift from an unexpected source: John Kerry.
As the president was telling the good people of Texas that the Democrats did not want to win in Iraq, his former rival was in California insulting the troops.
Or so Mr Bush and his spokesman would have us believe. And when you review Mr Kerrys comment, its hard to argue:
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," he said, eliciting chuckles from the students.
The president demanded an apology, and some furious military bloggers also pounced, calling Mr Kerry a disgrace.
Senator Kerry came out swinging in response, saying he had botched a joke aimed at the president - and that he would apologise to no-one for his criticism. But his tough talk reminded me of an old political maxim: If you're explaining, you're losing.
John Kerry clearly thinks he is going to run for president again in 2008. If he doesnt have jokes funnier than this, he's going to lose again. And in the meantime, he's not doing his party any favours this year.
Richard Greene is the BBC News website's Washington reporter
Damn, if Kerry's spin can't convince the BBC, he's hosed.
Thanks for the JFn quote. Its strange how Theresa Heinz's boy toy brought up Rush Limbaugh to create some misdirection for his own gaffe. He should start worrying about satisfying Ms. Heinz needs before starting to worry about those of President Bush, lest he soon finds himself single and poor again.
The BEEP reporter gets it, and BBC is farther left than Nancy Pelosi.
The John Kerry Model.
You should hear Allan Colmes try to defend Kerry....ROFL....he was desperate...
Kerry and the 'RATS insult and demean our brave soldiers in the field. Nobody with even a trace of patriotism could cast a vote for any of this traitorous scum or passively support them by refusing to vote. Turn out and vote for America next week!
Its bad...Ernest....this one is the DEM trainwreck....total wipeout.
See these.....

Iowa Candidate Asks Kerry to Cancel Campaign Visit
Heads Up! All Scheduled Kerry Functions for 11/1/06 cancelled
I doubt the fallout will be half as bad as I would love for it to be. The media will rush to spin the sh-t out of this and before the end of the week, the dems will have some snappy (stupid) retort.
I hope America got a glimpse of a little man willing to sell out his own country just to try to keep from saying I'm sorry. Pathetic.
Kerry lost the 2004 election thus the BBC will have no loyalty towards him and throw Kerry under the bus anytime they like. You can always count on liberals backstabing each other when they don't get what they want.
We don't let them bury it.
We should have loud and noisy demonstrations. Veterans organizations including the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled Veterans also have the bodies and clout to help keep this on the front burner.
Oh Kerry's just trying to make Rush the villain by adding to the MJ Fox stuff. He's piggybacking on the MSM Fox outrage story to try and make himself look good. He's nothing more than an attention whore and make-shift conspiracy squatter.
Rush never belittled Fox's Parkinsons disease. He merely repeated what Fox himself admitted--that he had not taken his meds before an appearance so that the symptoms of his disease would be more evident. Who's lying now, John?
I'd bet the person who wrote his "botched joke" speech is a secret supporter of Hillary.
kerry is the face, the heart and soul of today's dim party!

Kerry is getting a real beat-down over this. I wonder if he will give himself another Purple Heart, since the wounds are military-related.
They won't bury it. They will warp it and will try to use the groups you listed as backdrops for their new message.
