Kerry digs a deeper hole
The Chicago Tribune ^ | October 31, 2006 | Frank James

Did John Kerry (D-Mass.) help himself in his Seattle news conference this afternoon to explain his astonishing remarks yesterday which sounded like an elitist shot at the intelligence of members of the U.S. military serving in Iraq? Short answer: no.

An angry Kerry tried to give his supporters and Democrats something to fight back with when he said: “My statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke about the president and the president’s people, not about the troops.

“… If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me who’s been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans to fight for their benefits, to help honor what their service is, if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Iraq and not the president and his people who put them there, they’re crazy. It’s just wrong….”

But here’s the problem. In his moment of high dudgeon, he may have made matters worse. It probably wasn’t a good idea to accuse everyone who saw the video of his campaign appearance and thought he was disparaging the IQ of U.S. troops of being “crazy.”

Even the Chicago Trib says he was wrong.

But notice that in quoting his refusal to apologize, they excised the most egregious parts. He insulted Snow, he insulted Bush, he insulted everyone in sight. They cut most of that out.

Still shilling for the left. But every admission like this helps, even if it's sanitized.

Oh, and this is rich (er, no pun intended):

“… If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me who’s been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans to fight for their benefits, to help honor what their service is, if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Iraq and not the president and his people who put them there, they’re crazy. It’s just wrong….”

Does he really think that none of us can remember back to 1971? Or how about a year or two ago, when he accused American troops of terrorizing Iraqis?

If Kerry isn't the dumbest jerk in Senate, it's only because Chuck Schumer is a member as well. :)

That's all right. Kerry is one of those speakers that I am willing to listen to for 15 minutes and then my patience is exhausted. His 15 minutes were up a long time ago.

Hey, the nerve of these peasants, having the effrontery to even question the great Jean-Francois Kerry.

Kerry is a Boston Brahmin. The following ditty was composed about that lot:

"And this is good old Boston,
The home of the bean and the cod,
Where the Lowells talk only to Cabots,
And the Cabots talk only to God."

F-in is the gift that keeps on giving. We have to figure out a way to get him the Dem nomination again in 2008 instead of Hillary.

I commented on another thread that Kerry is one weekly allowance check away from total geekhood.

Kerry's grades at Yale where he took girly-girl, no challenge courses were dismal, as were his military IQ scores -- lower than President Bush's military tests.

I think we dodged the final bullet when he lost the 2004 race.

There is a picture of him in a campaign stop at a Wendy's where he interrupted a young Marine's lunch that is very revealing.

Kerry is glaring down at the Marine's ribbons, his left handpointing at the Marine, his right hand balled into a fist.

He's not a good man.

If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me who’s been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans...

No senator has been fighting more to take away resources from the military than Kerry. He's voted against every new weapon system, every strategic manuever that worked, and for gutting our intel resources for the military for almost 30 years. If he had gotten his way, tens of thousands more servicemen would be dead. We could all be speaking Russian.

and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke

How is the White House supposed to know full well, the intention of his remarks? Are we now supposed to believe he consults with the White House on the content of his lame speeches?

Spin away Mr.Kerry, your comment was a blatant insult, which you now refuse to recant.

"Let me make this crystal clear .. I apologize to no one!"

A gift. He could have apologised for any perceived offense to the military and their families.

It's fortunate he was born rich. Without servants, he bloody well couldn't tie his shoelaces.

I was listening to John F'n Kerry on the Rush show.

Kerry came across as a raging elitist hemorrhoid on a political asshole.

I always see the moon bats at DU blame Rove as the master manipulator of democratic downfalls, if that is the case, Kerry must be on Rove payroll.
