Did John Kerry (D-Mass.) help himself in his Seattle news conference this afternoon to explain his astonishing remarks yesterday which sounded like an elitist shot at the intelligence of members of the U.S. military serving in Iraq? Short answer: no.
An angry Kerry tried to give his supporters and Democrats something to fight back with when he said: My statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke about the president and the presidents people, not about the troops.
If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me whos been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans to fight for their benefits, to help honor what their service is, if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Iraq and not the president and his people who put them there, theyre crazy. Its just wrong .
But heres the problem. In his moment of high dudgeon, he may have made matters worse. It probably wasnt a good idea to accuse everyone who saw the video of his campaign appearance and thought he was disparaging the IQ of U.S. troops of being crazy.

He's imploding. Hopefully Massachusetts will wise up next time.
I wouldn't hold out much hope, look at how many times they've elected Kennedy.
Freud was a cocaine addict. Is that what you think compelled Kerry?
Hell, he struck oil. Republican oil.
Damn..I can't stand listening to Kerry for even one second! I attack my remote mute!
The question I have is this: Why in hell do the people of MASS relect this kerrya** in the first place????
I wonder what Pelosi, Reed, Clinton,...the entire demon caucus is telling Kerry in private. They have to be kicking his bunghole up between his shoulderblades and asking, how on earth can we change the national subject now. What other sh*t can we dump out there....Foleys gone...we milked that for all it is worth. Now what??????????????
You should be ashamed of yourself! Isn't that akin to shooting fish in a barrel?
kicking his bunghole up between his shoulderblades
But he's Mr. Tereza Heinz and he can say whatever he wants.
He has never had any friends in the Senate except the swimmer.
He might listen to the MSM, but not the Dims in Washington.
Hope he remains obstinate.
The condescending and patronizing explanation was even MORE INSULTING than his original outrage.
If Kerry had any conscience or shame at all--he would apologize and resign. Unfortunately he has neither--so he will do neither.
Kerry is an national embarrassment.
Someone should encourage him to submit a form 180 for ALL of his records.
Senator Horseface did go to law school...but Harvard Law School wasn't good enough for him. He attended Boston College.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State
John Kerry is a botched joke.
He need make only one response (it worked fine for all the moonbats last time!):
"I actually DID say those words, denigrating our troops...before I didn't say them!"
Inserting the words he supposedly intended to say simply doesn't make any sense. Was the assertion that inadequate effort in education would wind you up as a President who started the wrong war make any sense to anyone at all? If there's humor there even of the lame kind I don't see it. The statement that inadequate effort in education would wind you up in a metaphorical rice paddy is one that has been current on the Left for four decades now - vicious, petty, false even then, and utterly unworthy of anyone who styles himself a veteran. But it is perfectly consistent with a Kerry who insisted in 1971 that we were all war criminals. That was a pretty hip pose back then and he and a lot of his admirers don't see any difference between then and now except that the same crap doesn't seem to be working anymore, for which they blame conservatives instead of their own mendacity and wishful thinking.
I'm not buying the "joke on Bush" spin and I don't really think anyone who hears the entire cut will either. We'll hear a lot of deftly cut versions in the next week that will appear to cast doubt on his intentions, but that's the best they'll be able to do.
