Vets, pols stick it to Kerry: Iraq remarks draw ire

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry’s “botched joke” about students needing to study hard or risk becoming “stuck in Iraq” has ignited a political firestorm over the war exactly a week from the election.

Kerry lashed out at the White House at a press conference in Seattle this afternoon for attacking him for his comments. The White House, however, called on Kerry to apologize for troop-bashing. A defiant Kerry refused.

“Let me make it crystal clear, as crystal clear as I know how,” Kerry said. “I apologize to no one for my criticism of the President and his broken policy. If anyone owes our troops in the fields an apology, it is the president and his failed team.”

Kerry then admitted “my statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke about the president and the president’s people, not about the troops.”

Yesterday, at a rally for California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides, Kerry told a cheering Pasadena City College audience: “Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard and do your homework and you make an effort to be smart you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Video snippets of the speech have popped up on www.youtube.com, prompting irate calls by mothers of U.S. soldiers to Boston radio talk stations.

U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) issued a statement today calling on fellow Vietnam veteran Kerry to say he’s sorry.

“Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education,” McCain said in a statement posted on drudgereport.com.

And the White House also called on Kerry to apologize.

“Senator Kerry not only owes an apology to those who are serving, but also to the families of those who’ve given their lives in this,” White House press secretary Tony Snow said. “This is an absolute insult.”

Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran, fired back, saying the president and his administration are the ones who owe U.S. troops an apology because they “misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it.”

“This is the classic GOP playbook,” Kerry said in the harshly worded statement. “I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium.”

Kerry needs to leave public life and play the role of a rich, spoiled, puffed-up elitist. At that, he's excels.

As my Australian mates would say "John Kerry just stepped on his dick." That's an Aussie expression for a hugely embarrassing situation. What compounds the mistake is his belief that he is showing the world that he is a "real man" by his unwillingness to apologise. Every democrat congressman, senator and senior statesman needs to give this loser a public smackdown. Of course they won't, so we can continue to capitalize on the fact that John Kerry's original remark clearly reveals the democrat party's contempt for those defending our great nation.

"I apologize to no one for my criticism of the President and his broken policy" Kerry said.

This is mixing up two different things. His comments were obviously showing his contempt for military personnel.

He goes on to say never would he insult military personnel. Does he mean like his words in front of those infamous hearings where he said American troops murdered, tortured etc?

It is interesting to see that the more liberal MSM is always mentioning that he's a decorated Vietnam Veteran but fails to mention what he did when he returned and how he played this to his political advantage.

The truth accidentally "slipped out", and he's not apologizing he said. Why am I not surprised.

Yeah, Kerry is despicable. He`s the same as when was stabbing American
soldiers in the back for his politcal hopes back in VN.

Jeeze, I`m disgusted by these Democrats, but then again I`ve been that
way since about 1972.

You didn`t fly Goony Birds back then by any chance?

A loser cockroach like dipstick Kerry doesn't even think about the heroes in Iraq protecting his sorry butt, or, more accurately, protecting his useless head from being chopped off.

Our army is NOT made up of dropouts but intelligent patriots (Kerry the charlatan wouldn't even know what one of those was) making up the finest army that has ever fought anywhere.

I still wish our politicians had half the honor, fortitude and focus that our Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force people have! Our country would not be as threatened from within and without as it is.

God, bless our troops and protect them. God, please don't bless John Kerry. Not until he repents.

***“Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard and do your homework and you make an effort to be smart you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.” ***

Or you could end up being a Massachusetts voter and voting for this POS and that other traitor fat Ted Kennedy.

"He is a traitor who should have been hanged"

Couldn't agree more.

Does anyone know the statute of limitations, or if there is one on a charge of treason?

I want to make sure that I buy enough new rope.
