Down in the polls and with their majorities in Congress at risk, Republicans say they have some good news in early-voting statistics that suggest their voter-turnout machine is providing an edge in some tight races.
If the trend holds, it could mean that early voting is growing -- and continuing to benefit Republicans, who exploited the practice in the 1990s. Experts say early voters could be a bigger factor this year when overall voter turnout could be lower than in 2004, a presidential-election year.

For America, I hope the GOP holds firm and fast...
Are you in Max Burns district? Good to see the large turn out.
Most 20-somethings are idiots as the Dems educated them! You are a happy exception. Congrats for coming out with your mind still intact.
You know what is coming next. The Dems will want to stop this since the process is too complicated for their constituents. They first have to request the ballot and then they have to fill it out and THEN they have to go all the way to a mailbox to send it back. This is just too hard. A violation of their rights. This is worse even than having to show a photo ID!
My husband has already voted absentee, straight republican ticket. I'm waiting till election day; because of where we live, I don't really trust that all absentee votes will be counted. We're hedging our bets :)
Hopefully, early voting is going well in the Senate races. Especially in Virginia, Montana, Tennessee, Missouri, New Jersey, Maryland. Hopefully, instead of worrying about the polls, people at Free Republic will start to post election results.
Just below him- the crowd had me so startled I almost turned around, to try another day.
Interesting dynamic- most people there seemed to know each other- I saw one fellow I knew, whose name I couldn't place, and heard one name I recognized. One old fellow so blind his wife was leading him, and about a third were black folks.
Quiet, but cordial crowd.
I really don't know what to make of it- the 2004 election was a blowout here for President Bush, and the crowd at the polling place like I had never seen it before- people hugging, high-fiving, and shaking hands... swapping medical stories, catching up on old friends. Young and old, the halt, the lame, and the blind... young mothers dragging kids and babies along ( "See-this is how Mommie Votes! )... lots of black and white folks, all very happy to see each other... it was strange!
In all my decades of voting, I never saw anything like the 2004 polling place. And I don't know if you can extrapolate that experience with yesterdays- but it certainly was interesting.
I like this FReeper's idea--give the Dems/MSM the purple (middle) finger.

I don't even know if early voting happens around here (Fairfax, VA) and since I'm not gone, I figure absentee isn't open to me either.
No, Bmwcyle and I make a morning of it on election day. He makes the coffee and I make him walk to the school where we vote. We get it done as early as possible!

It sounds like you have the situation under control- I checked here:

"4 states and the District of Columbia require an excuse for in-person absentee voting. (DC, KY, MN, MO, VA)"
I still can't account for the crowd I was in- was it the radio ads? Angry voters? ( They seemed quite happy ) I guess we will know after the ballots are counted.
"There is, however, another class for which I feel not the slightest sympathy. Parliament has given us powers to put down fifth column activities with the strongest hand, and we shall use those powers subject to the supervision and correcting of the House without hesitation until we are satisfied and more than satisfied that this malignancy in our midst has been effectually stamped out."

VOTE REPUBLICAN TO STAMP OUT FIFTH COLUMNISTS IN OUR MIDST AKA DEMOCRATS
The Nashville Tennessean, a liberal fish wrapper, blasted across their headlines the following, "Corker Leads Ford by 8 Points In CNN Poll". This tells me that they are running scared.

Pray for rain.
I voted last night.
I will not. I have had the salt poured into the wounds and had the wounds rubbed too many times.
I shall celebrate and celebrate, again and again.
I voted!
Voted by mail in Arizona a couple of weeks ago. Straight Republican ticket.
The last time I voted for a 'Rat was about same date I tossed out my last pair of bellbottom pants.
I moved around alot, so I just verified my registration yesterday...Today was the deadline. Locked and loaded!
I did when I was a 20-something in college; voted absentee even...'course that was in 1979-83 was voting for President Reagan. :)
