Drastic action on climate change is needed now [A British leftie goes off his meds]
The Guardian( UK) ^ | October 31, 2006 | George Monbiot

The principal costs of climate change will be measured in lives, not pounds.

But at least almost everyone now agrees that we must act, if not at the necessary speed. If we're to have a high chance of preventing global temperatures from rising by 2C (3.6F) above preindustrial levels, we need, in the rich nations, a 90% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions by 2030. The greater part of the cut has to be made at the beginning of this period. To see why, picture two graphs with time on the horizontal axis and the rate of emissions plotted vertically. On one graph the line falls like a ski jump: a steep drop followed by a shallow tail. On the other it falls like the trajectory of a bullet. The area under each line represents the total volume of greenhouse gases produced in that period. They fall to the same point by the same date, but far more gases have been produced in the second case, making runaway climate change more likely.

So how do we do it without bringing civilisation crashing down? Here is a plan for drastic but affordable action that the government could take. It goes much further than the proposals discussed by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown yesterday, for the reason that this is what the science demands.

1. Set a target for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions based on the latest science. The government is using outdated figures, aiming for a 60% reduction by 2050. Even the annual 3% cut proposed in the early day motion calling for a new climate change bill does not go far enough. Timescale: immediately.

The only way to achieve such drastic reductions would be to shutdown an entire economy. Of course if every one stop breathing, that would help. Why the panic? Europe is being depopulated and its population will be slashed by nearly half in the next 40 years. That alone will solve global warming all by itself.

Who is this guy? Does he have any scientific credentials at all? This global warming BS has really attained the status of
a religion, headed by Pope Al I.

He did too mention 'nuclear'. He wants to get rid of nuclear missiles.

George Monbiot certainly has a point...I think he should prove his convictions by living free of all trappings of civilization (which would include fire and permanent structures). I think after a couple months of raw rodents and no bathing, either he will change his views or the neighbors will slay the smelly moonbat.

I'm sick of these people. Can someone please get a grip on these people and put them in institutions so that way they can't damage the mental health and welfare of the general population? I am so sick and tired of how our governments can pay enough to support an entire underclass, but they can't fund a series of hospitals to contain these nutjobs. I'm not even kidding, these people have serious personality disorders and they are the ones running society and damaging the health of our kids and families with their deranged mania.

We were treated to a doomsday scenario by our Leftwing public broadcaster SBS on the 'news' last night...complete with colourful graphics that showed how much beachfront land we MIGHT lose, how many buildings MIGHT be flooded, IF the level of the ocean rose as it MIGHT if we don't do something about global warming...and pay an extra tax on fuel and sign the Kyoto Protocol.

Can you say SHAKEDOWN? Can you say EXTORTION? This entire fiasco is IMO driven by the United (send money) Nations.

One big difference between the US, Australia on one side, and New Zealand and "Mother Britain" on the other is that: a far greater amount of the later, even including many of the conservatives, believe all the junk science that anthro-induced climate changes are real and policies to cause to reduce carbon gas emissions is the right decision.

It is an insane world.

Sure is. The 'average person' can't tell the difference between sensible polution control, and the 'greenhouse effect' a term coined by Carl Sagan, (in relation to VENUS!) IIRC...for which, other than computer models, no real evidence exists. In Oz, the mean lowest temp is around 16.02 and temp increases world wide in the last 100 years are .O7.

Yet, we are DOOMED, the island nations are drowning, we have been warned by the Left that Australia will have to accept the populations of the 'drowned island nations' as migrants...(frankly, from what I can see, those islands, being volcanic atolls are SINKING!)

If all the ice on Greenland were to melt, sea levels would rise by 19 inches...yet Greenland ice has been melting for hundreds of years, explorers in the early 19th century found rivers of ice falling into chasms - and that's long before we had motor vehicles and aircraft.

There are studies that show Greenland's ice, which is some 10,000 feet deep, is actually increasing! despite the melt...and a recent article on Antarctica states that temps on that continent are LOWER - 2006 has been the COLDEST YEAR YET!

The Left has a new stick to beat us with. A few years ago it was 'the coming ice age' and now we are all going to boil and drown, LOL!

Scare tactics. It's those awful, terrible capitalists! (Make them PAY!)
