Cheney: Iraq Violence Linked to Election

Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday the increase of violence in Iraq is linked with efforts to influence the outcome of midterm elections in which Republicans are struggling to keep control of Congress.

"It's my belief that they're very sensitive of the fact that we've got an election scheduled and they can get on the Web sites like anybody else," Cheney said. He said al-Qaida and other elements were trying to "break the will of the American people" because "they think we don't have the stomach for the fight long-term."

Asked if the attacks were timed to influence the U.S. elections, Cheney said, "That's my belief."

Eight days before the elections, Cheney sat down for interviews for Fox News Channel's `Your World with Neil Cavuto' and CNBC's "Kudlow & Company."

Since there's always going to be another election this will be a problem. As a solution, Bush should suspend all elections and establish himself as Dictator until such time that the danger has passed (that's probably what DU fears).

Sorry, but those pigs have other things on their minds than US mid-term elections.

I'm so happy somebody in the administration is finally pointing this out. Very few people realize how media savvy the terrorists have become...

They know that their primary weapon is not bombs or guns -- it is terror, and they use the media and the American political system to their benefit at every possible turn.

As a caller to Rush said today, someone should check and see if that sniper video was made before or after CNN sent them an email asking if they had some good anti-American propaganda on hand.

It's not a matter of all elections. This election is about staying the course in the WOT or returning to the days when it was a law enforcement issue and a nuisance (according to John Kerry). The terrorists would like to see the cut-n-run, ostrich crowd win, of course.

I think it brings the US down a notch to associate US elections with a country 1,000 years behind the modern world.

"....Sorry, but those pigs have other things on their minds than US mid-term elections...."

That may be true...however, the terrorists know that a Democrat administration will change things in their favor. Doesn't it seem plausible that they would actively "campaign" for the Dems by ratcheting up the violence just prior to US elections? And thus try to actually influence the outcome?

Or do you not believe that....?

Fox News may tilt right but the Democratic bias of recent programming on CNN goes beyond the bounds of decency. Channel surfing my way past their programming, I see the banner "Broken Government." Stop a minute and I hear MoveOn talking points presented as "news." Like Olbermann at MSNBC they've decided that high decibel partisanship is the way to get ratings. I wonder if it's true.

That's the thing, though. Every election from now until the WOT is over (if ever) would be like that. That's why we should have used more of a mailed fist when the position was secure (i.e. after the 2004 election). Instead it was PC warfare that does little to crush the spirit of resistance. If we are going to occupy a hostile country we need to utilize tactics that work. It's not pretty, but neither is allowing this gaping wound to fester.

It is so obvious.
It is the whole nature of terrorism, to erode resolve and will. And the democrats are doing exactly what the terrorists want them to do.

It's just their way of voting.

And showing us who they favor.

The WOT is a long term prospect, the failure of the extremely bias and corruption in the MSM may not be a long term prospect as their business continues to drop like a rock....check out the stock prices of the NYSlimes/Boston Globe/Philly Inquirer/ and market share of ABCNBCMSNBCCNNNPRCBS newz business, etal....it will approach 0 in the near future...they correctly see this election as their last chance...the ranks of unemployed journalist/newscasters are about to see a large increase...LOLs.

I agree with Vice President Cheney. I firmly believe that if the terrorists could vote in our elections, they would vote for Democrats. Even though they cannot vote, they are definitely campaigning for the Democrats. No doubt about it, IMO.

It's not a country, it's a philosophy masquerading as a religion. The philosophy is to use the percentage of the U.S. population allergic to war to defeat the U.S. The election is how it worked in Vietnam and we are living it now. When that is accomplished, the door is wide open to conquer the world.

The "insurgents" increased their attacks to influence the last election too.
Hopefully it won't work this time either.

US Casualties (combined wounded and killed) in Iraq compared for election and off-election years:

There is also a popular view among Americans Islam might have some role in the violence.

When will blame ever be placed directly on the lap of Islam? Even when no elections are scheduled the violence continues with ebbs and flows. What is the excuse then, high tides, global warming, American Idol voting, planet alignment, new dress fashions, the Pope spoke? What? It's Islam!
