The $35.00 solution: Putting Eric Dickerson over the top
Eric Dickerson for Indiana 7th C.D, ^ | Oct. 30, 2006 | self

Posted on 10/30/2006 5:00:06 AM PST by jmaroneps37

Like all of you, I was electrified by the recent news that our candidate Eric Dickerson had pulled ahead of Julia Carson a five term Democrat who won with just 54% of the vote in 2004. Aside from the obvious indications of a pick up of a seat, what makes this race still more exciting is that both candidates are Black.

http://www.ericdickersonforcongress.com/

This is a very simple choice: Do we mobilize and contribute to the campaign of a Trained Marine war fighter or stand on the sidelines and let a cut and run surrender Liberal win by default?

I have personally interviewed Eric Dickerson and learned is a former United States Marine. He is a trained war fighter. He knows what is at stake. He knows we either fight the Democrats in our polls now or prepare to fight terrorists in our streets in the near future.

With her ZERO American Conservative Union rating ( a rarity, even for Democrats not even Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi have a ZERO ACU rating) Carson is a LIBERAL certain cut and runner.

Dickerson 57, is a married father of four and cares about this country more than a cut and run LIBERAL does. He knows running out of our responsibilities to fight terror will only invite more attacks.

Now a local businessman in the Indianapolis area where he lives, Eric has run a superb race as was indicated by Ms. Carson’s acknowledgement of her “under dog” status in the wake of the release of a poll showing Eric Dickerson leading by a 45/42 margin.

When the first post on Eric hit Freerepublic it had an immediate positive effect. Hundreds of messages poured in to his website:

http://www.ericdickersonforcongress.com/

He now has some funds for a TV campaign, but he really needs your help. He won’t get help from national organizations. In spite of the poll showing him in the lead, this race is STILL being carried as a likely Democrat retention.

Exactly what he needs: Your donation of $35.00.

I ran the field operations for Catholics Against Kerry two years ago. I made the radio buys ( CaK never had near enough for a TV campaign ). Believe me your donation of $35.00 will buy a minute of local radio time this week. Campaigns get the best rate by law and $35.00 will get Eric a minute of very valuable time.

The tide is rolling in our favor. Something good is happening out there!

Let’s take Eric Dickerson as OUR FREEPER CANDIDATE. Let’s give whatever we can, right now today so that we can laugh and cry and celebrate with this good man on Election Night. http://www.ericdickersonforcongress.com/

The contrast between our candidate Eric Dickerson and the tired old entrenched liberal Democrat (and when I say LIBERAL, how about a ZERO LIFETIME AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION rating?) could not be clearer.

How LIBERAL is Julia Carson?

Here are some of the votes and positions LIBERAL Julia Carson has taken over the years: On Crime:

She voted against the Death Penalty: H R 2181 R.C. 20 02/25/98: possessing an illegal firearm

She voted against increasing mandatory minimum sentences for Criminal Possession of illegal firearms. This bill would have added:

a mandatory 10 years to any sentence of a criminal who merely possessed a firearm during the commission of a crime;

a mandatory 15 years to any sentence of a criminal who merely showed a firearm during the commission of a crime;

a mandatory 20 years to any sentence of a criminal who merely fired a firearm during the commission of a crime; and

a mandatory 30 years for the mere possession of a machine gun during the commission of a crime.

Carson voted NO on HR 3 R.C. # 118 05/ 08/ 97 : increase punishments for violent street gang activities.

This bill would have allowed an increased level of punishment for crimes committed by violent Juvenile Street gangs. It would have allowed states to apply for extra funds for combating violent Juvenile Street gangs by drawing from a 1.5 Billion dollar initial appropriation.

Carson voted against HR 2436 R.C. 465 09/30/99 : Attacking a pregnant woman

This bill would provide for federal penalties for those who attack pregnant women and injure or kill their babies.

Carson voted No to HR 5092 R.C. 476 01/16/06: tougher penalties for illegal firearms possession

This bill would add to the Attorney General’s ability to combat possession of illegal possession of firearms and establish new stiffer civil penalties for violations of federal firearms control laws.On Drugs:

Carson voted THREE TMES to support a federal illegal drug needle exchange.

H Amdt 347 R. C. 391 09/11/97, HR 2264 R.C. 09/17 /97, HR 4380 R.C. 412 08/06/98

Carson voted *No: to using our armed forces to help Immigration and Customs agents keep illegal drugs out of the country.

*She was one of only thirty nine to vote No.

Carson on Carson; In a recent interview on WTHR (Ch 13) broadcast on October 17, 2004 Carson said “ We needed increased border security.”

But Carson TWICE voted AGAINST increased border protection on May 8, 2002 (HR 3525) and again on October 8, 2004 when voting against (HR 10) implementing recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

Cut and run vs. Trained War fighter

Eric Dickerson supports the protection of our borders and homeland defense “as though it has no other job.”

Carson supports Partial Birth Abortion

Julia Carson sided with Nancy Pelosi and her California liberals and was the only Indiana congressperson voting against the Partial Birth Abortion Ban (S.3 10/02/03), a gruesome procedure that the American Medical Association says is “never” medically necessary.

Eric supports the ban on this horrible procedure that is often performed in the late stages of pregnancy.

Dickerson stands with President Bush on Social Security as well

While Liberal Julia Carson opposes proposals that help fix Social Security and allow for the future generations of recipients to increase their benefits, Eric Dickerson stand with the President on Social Security reform. He understands the current system cheats taxpayers by making their Social Security payments “low interest loans” to the government, not a trust fund for the future.

“The failures of the current Social Security System hurt the poorest Americans the most.” Eric said recently. Dickerson supports meeting all commitments to retirees. Eric acknowledges the reality that the current system must be changed for younger people. This must be done to provide better returns and to avoid taxation that would destroy our economy

About Eric Dickerson

In the 27 years he's lived in Indianapolis, Eric Dickerson has distinguished himself as a leader and role model. He joined General Motors Corporation's Allison Engine Division as an engineer and pilot. Rising through the ranks, he eventually was named director of public relations. He continued in that role when Rolls-Royce Corp. bought Allison. After he retired from Rolls-Royce, Eric's career took another turn. He became an entrepreneur and opened Eric Dickerson Buick in 1999. He also did a brief stint as a talk show host on NewsTalk 1430 WXNT; and he bought Maggie Moo Ice Cream Treatery in 2005.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Eric graduated from Detroit's Northwestern High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Western Michigan University. He was accepted to the U.S. Marine Corps officer candidate school and earned his wings as a pilot. After graduating from flight school, Eric served with the HMA 269 Attack Squadron in Jacksonville, North Carolina. When his active duty service ended in 1979 and he moved to Indianapolis, Eric joined the Indiana National Guard, where he served as a helicopter pilot and maintenance officer.

He has earned numerous awards for his business and community achievements over the years including: · Recognition for taking 40 IPS students to Washington, D.C. at his own expense for an extended educational field trip.

* Benefactor for two “In Spite of Annual Banquet” dinners for approximately 100 troubled local youth.

This is our chance to stand the “experts” on their heads. Please help this man. I have interviewed him personally and I can tell you that I came away a believer.

Need another reason to vote for Dickerson?

"It's the same story every year," said Amy Walter, who tracks congressional races for the Washington-based Cook Political Report. "And then she pulls it off."

Walter continued :"I recognize this district is changing," she said. "It's becoming more suburban. That's why every couple of years some Republican challenger says, 'Hey, this is doable.' But this is not the year, and this is not the Republican challenger who we'd say can do it."

What time are you coming through Indy ?

Things went well today. Eric got a free hour of radio time. Most of the calls into the show were from the average black voter with just a few volunteers who got to call in.

This afternoon he had a good visit at a senior citizen community. He was very well recieved.

This was posted to another blog about the positions on illegal immigration:

We believe Rep Julia Carson, Democrat representing the 7th Congressional District, should not be re-elected for another term.

Carson voted against the Community Protection Act of 2006. This legislation would have detained illegal aliens to ensure that they would be deported and not released back onto our streets. Carson has a terrible record when it comes to enforcing our immigration laws and seems to support illegal immigration. On a scale from A to F for her efforts on illegal immigration, Americans for Better Immigration gives Carson a D.

Her opponent, Eric Dickerson, states he doesn't support amnesty for the illegal immigrants in our country. Dickerson, being a newcomer to national politics, should be given a chance to represent Indiana in the House of Representatives for the next term.

11/01/06 - FOX.NEWS - YOU DECIDE 2006 -- Eric Dickerson
Dear FOX Fans,

My name is Eric Dickerson and I'm running for Congress because I think a congressional district is a terrible thing to waste. My campaign is about change and vision. I offer the people of Indianapolis -- Democrats, Republicans and Independent voters alike -- a new path forward; a path based on positive leadership, vigor, fresh ideas, and consensus building that will improve the lives of all our citizens.

My opponent, Julia Carson, has represented Indiana's 7th District for 10 years. I have tremendous respect for her. She has been a courageous leader who has served her community with distinction. However, it's time for a new brand of leadership to produce the kind of results we need to build a vibrant, prosperous, safe, community. Spreading the love simply isn't enough.

11/01/06 - Straight From the Horses Mouth: The Words of Eric Dickerson

Eric has the main cover story on AMP Magazine.

My name is Eric Dickerson. (Age 57) I was born and raised in Detroit and I don't mean the suburbs either. When I was growing up Detroit was known as the murder capital of the world, violence and drugs prevailed. Many lives were senselessly destroyed and others were negatively changed forever. I saw young people shot or stabbed just because they were carrying books home to study. Even back in the day some people thought a black person with a book represented a problem. I think this is one of the reasons I have such a good memory. It paid to be able to read something once and retain it. But despite all of this, our family and community believed we could be successful and achieve at a high level and we did.

Some stuff brewing down here in indy . . .

Political Blog with Jim Shella - Local TV Political reporter.

Close polling numbers may or may not suggest that Julia Carson is in trouble in her bid for re-election, but somebody is concerned.

That's the only possible explanation for the fact TV ads for Carson are about to hit the air and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is picking up part of the bill.

And now more . . .

http://blogs.indystar.com/politicaljunkie/archives/2006/11/dickerson_v_car.html#comments

Dickerson v. Carson

A reader asked me during today's Webchat whether 7th District Republican candidate Eric Dickerson could be on the verge of defeating U.S. Rep. Julia Carson.

Democrats obviously think that is a possibility. First, a feel-good Carson commercial featuring Mayor Bart Peterson recently began airing. But the real hint that Democrats are taking this campaign seriously landed in some Indianapolis mailboxes today.

A campaign mailer, sent out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, hits Dickerson hard. It relies on reports this summer that Dickerson was arrested for domestic violence 15 years ago. (Dickerson's wife later denied the charges, which were eventually dropped.)

"What's worse," the new mailer asks. "A candidate for Congress who beats his wife, bites his kid, gets arrested and goes to jail ... or a candidate who lies about it?"

The ad does not appear to be the work of a party that thinks its candidate is a sure thing on Nov. 7. One interesting note: The mailer features a grainy picture of Dickerson. Four years ago, Carson and Democrats alleged racism after Republicans sent out a mailer featuring a grainy photo of Carson. Both Carson and Democrat are black.

( The flyer never mentions the arrest was 15 years ago and was dropped ) .

Of course not.....

Got anything to counter the party ads? Will the GOP help you out?
