11/01/06 - Straight From the Horses Mouth: The Words of Eric Dickerson

Eric has the main cover story on AMP Magazine.

My name is Eric Dickerson. (Age 57) I was born and raised in Detroit and I don't mean the suburbs either. When I was growing up Detroit was known as the murder capital of the world, violence and drugs prevailed. Many lives were senselessly destroyed and others were negatively changed forever. I saw young people shot or stabbed just because they were carrying books home to study. Even back in the day some people thought a black person with a book represented a problem. I think this is one of the reasons I have such a good memory. It paid to be able to read something once and retain it. But despite all of this, our family and community believed we could be successful and achieve at a high level and we did.
