Write-in Could Win Delay's Spot, Poll Finds.
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10-29-2006 | Doug Miller

On Monday President Bush flies into Houston to campaign for a congressional candidate who — at one point — looked like a long shot.

But an exclusive poll indicates that Shelley Sekula-Gibbs may pull off a political upset and win her write-in campaign for Congress.

Wonder how much longer the "NRA" will be credible.

Not much longer, judging by their Lampson endorsement. I understand that Lampson is more conservative than the average moonbat dem, and is pro-2nd amendment; but if Shelley has a good rating with them, and is a pubbie to boot, why not support her?

My theory: they thought the race was a walk in the park for Lampson, and wanted to make a contribution to the one who would win. They should have waited a while before making an endorsement.

So a Texas GOP voter can't simply write in Shelly Gibbs?
It has to be Shelly Sekula Gibbs?

Am I understanding this correctly?
There will be free flu shots given out on election day? At the voting polls? NO WAY?

I agree, there has been so much hand wringing and fretting on FR its annoying as hell.
And don't even get me started on those back stabbers who want Dems to win to teach Rinos a lesson

NRA's grading of Texas candidates here.

Both Lampson and Gibbs get an "A" but not an "A+".

It can't be "Shelly Gibbs"

It has to be "Shelley Sekula Gibbs or the lawyers flying in to recount the ballots will have it thrown out.

"So a Texas GOP voter can't simply write in Shelly Gibbs? It has to be Shelly Sekula Gibbs?"

The intent of the voters who use various forms and spellings of the write-in candidate's name will be ultimately decided by a bipartisan commission after election day under Texas law. There is anecdotal evidence that alternate forms of the name will be acceptable, but specifics about the acceptable forms have not been officially published to my knowledge.

Therefore, the position I take with any voter I advise in TX CD-22 is to write in the full name of Shelley Sekula Gibbs and refer to the posting in each voting booth for the correct spelling. I will not second guess the commission's criteria before the election and risk giving bad advice that later invalidates the vote.

Yeah, but everybody has been hearing them talk trash about a sweep for so long that they will just make themselves look stupid if they claim victory without capturing at least one house of Congress. They will look like complete idiots if they capture neither.

Interestingly enough, more voters know who she is than Nick Lampson. It doesn't matter. Anyone who wants to vote Democrat will have no problem knowing what to do. That's the problem. They don't need to know who Nick Lampson is to vote for him. They just need to know what DEM stands for.

Shelly has done a excellent job in getting her name out.

Suprisingly, Lampson has aided her also, with attack literature.

If any Republican doesn't know who she is, they probably do not know who Delay was either.

We will have workers at the precents letting Republican voters know who the Republican candidate is and how to vote for her.

This seat is staying GOP.

The problem is that little fly-wheel thing you have to spin around for each and every letter of a long name. Takes forever, like using an old rotary phone and the dial always going back to the top each time.

It takes an extra couple of minutes.

A real sacrifice considering what our troops are doing for us.

Question: who gets the votes for TOM DELAY, if a voter clicks "tom delay" on the ballot?

Delay's name is not on the ballot.

President Bush, right, joins Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, center, R- Texas, and Republican congressional candidate Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, left, during a get-out-the-vote rally Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 in Sugar Land, Texas.

Sekula-Gibbs is running against Democrat Nick Lampson for the congressional seat vacated by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay

You're preaching to the choir here - but I'm not in her district, anyway, so won't be doing the wheel thingy.

It's the general population I'm thinking of - people take the path of least resistance and even if we are Pubbies and smarter than the average bear or Dem, a whole bunch of us can't spell worth a darn, present company excluded.

I'm reminded of those little Dymo label-makers we had before the computerized print labelers. You painstakingly turned the little wheel to "S" and all the way around to "H" and then to "E" and by the time you got to the 2nd "L," you had to check and see if you had already punched one "L."

Anyway, it's not FReepers I'm worried about who might get frustrated at the wheel, it's the great unwashed masses and "too-busy-to-use-whole-words" people who can't stand still long enough to wash their hands in the restroom and sing Happy Birthday all the way through, to keep from getting the flu!

VOTE TWICE FOR SHELLEY!

The NRA is endorsing Lampson in this race btw. Sekula-Gibbs is an anti-smoking Nazi and has been ineffective on Houston City Council. I'm confused

Gibbs received a 'A' from the NRA.

Lampson will put Pelosi in power.

The NRA once endorsed the Democrat who Ron Paul was running against only because he was the incumbent.

The NRA is very foolish when it comes to politics.

I hope she wins, but this one looks like a longshot, my money went elsewhere.

Intent will be looked at.

If they voted for in the Special election, then their intent will be clear.

Her name is also in the ballot box.

People who are voting are asking how to use the write-in at the precents.

The average American is always underestimated.
