A Mid-Sunday afternoon call comes to Roger & Team Hedgecock. A friend embedded in the district office of Congressman Duncan Hunter. Heads up for a news conference on Monday October 30th at 11am at the Broadway Pier. Duncan will announce for higher office. Hell seek a job that becomes vacant in 2008 at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Duncan will apparently announce the formation of an exploratory committee, which will allow him to begin raising funds for a PA Avenue campaign. Formation of such a committee does not always result in an actual candidacy A couple of GOP Senators in deep trouble with their re-election bids have formed such committees a loss on home turf on November 7th would likely negate any potential for the Presidential bid. Duncan faces no such threat but many who have formed such committees in the past did not end up running Lets us state for the record that Duncan should, nay MUST, run!!
The call made our afternoon. At a time when our nation so desperately needs leadership, direction and a strong hand at the helm, Duncans potential candidacy is, in my view, a Godsend.
Do yourself a favor and stack Duncan up against the list of announced Presidential candidates on the Gop and Democratic side. See links below.

SOME BACKGROUND ON WHAT AN EXPLORATORY COMMITTEE IS ALL ABOUT

Duncans bio may not include some personal references that we would like to make.
Duncan has stood strong for the Boy Scouts of America.
He has stood strong for the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial (instrumental in having it conveyed to the U.S. Department of Defense).
Hes stood strong for Charter Education.
Hes stood strong for American Defense. (hes a U.S. Army (Ranger ) (Vietnam)vet and one of his sons is a U.S. Marine who fought at falluja - and frankly was pissed when the first assault on that city was called off by Washington meddlers)
Hes supported our men and women in uniform, not only as a member of the U.S. Congress, but as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
Hes stood tall for securing Americas Borders, having been instrumental in building the first ever stretch of fencing in the San Diego area.
Hes stood tall for Family Values, his family being the best evidence of his regard for God, Family and Country. He is a man of faith and his Christian values run deep and are openly professed.
Hes stood tall for the Second Amendment. Hes a decent (hed say great) rifle shot, a hunter and an outdoorsman.
Hes stood tall for small business. One of his personal heroes is the guy who founded Tylers Taste of Texas, a small restaurant in El Cajon that now has chapters in Yuma and elsewhere.
Hes mostly a lousy dresser. Though hes cleaned up a bit as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Somebody bought an iron for him.
Hes a humble guy. Our first association with Duncan goes back a decade. Hed arrive at KSDO radio for an interview on Rogers radio show in a beat up station wagon driven by his then 70-something year old dad. No aides, no coat holders. Dad waited in the car (so he could hear and critique the radio interview).
Hes a man of humor and intellect.
He is direct. Just last week he issued a press release suggesting that Iraqi forces should be deployed to Baghdad to restore order there.
He reminds one of America. A pretty simple guy, an honest guy, a sincere guy, a man of faith, conviction intelligence and commitment. His friendship is a valued commodity.
Ive been blessed because Duncan is my Congressman. I have been honored to cast my vote for him in every election hes run since coming to California in 1991.
Thought youd want to know.

Illegal aliens generally don't try to talk to me in the manner that Paul Ross does. There's something about being held at gunpoint for trespassing that encourages good manners.
Bottom line: Hunter's got chums in the district, and he's logrolled earmarks for them. Either he's really confident that no one's going to say "BOO!" about those earmarks, or this is a vanity run.
Please find any member of Congress who has never voted for an appropriation bill which has included any appropriation at all for projects in his district. All you are saying is that Hunter has held pulic office. That is not totally disqualifying, you know!
So the issue of out-of-control Congressional spending is now completely off of the table?
Since you mention it, Lou Dobbs just brought that up. Hunter mentioned one that is his biggest donor. He also mentioned that he shot down legislation that would have benefited them. The transcript will be up soon.

BOO! Happy Holloween!
If your solution includes spending no money on national defense at all, yes that solution is off the table.
He is running to convey the Republican military message in the primary.
Frist will convey the health care positions.
Some of that logrolling is Duncan Hunter voting for the other guy's pork. I'll ask again: is the issue of out-of-control Congressional spending is now completely off of the table?
Interesting claim. When, exactly, did he do that? When did he not do that?
Until you propose some solution that does not involve eliminating national defense, we have nothing to discuss.
Why wouldn't they still exist? You have a problem with the JBS?
I do not know. You claim to be the Duncan Hunter corruption expert, why don't you tell us? So far you've offered nothing and I, for one, would like to know if he's corrupt now, not 4 or 5 years from now.
As I said, the transcript will be up later. You can read what he said.

I've been told by a lot of the folks who are salivating over Hunter's run that your answer is simply not acceptable--namely, that we cannot tolerate any Congress that engages in logrolling of pork for necessary expenditures such as national defense--and that we must forfeit Congress to the Democrats for an indefinite period of time until the GOP gets religion on the topic of out-of-control spending.
thanks for the ping.
I've got to do some more research on Hunter. I just saw him on Lou Dobbs. I haven't read through this thread in its entirety yet, but I want to know more about his position on the illegals that are already here, amnesty, and if he's spoken out at all about SPP/NAU.
For 45 years I have had 3 basic problems with the JBS:
1) Their weaknesses in serious political analysis.
2) Their tendency in electoral politics to ally with the left, in order to defeat other conservatives.
3) They are political poison.
I hope that this is a satisfactory explanation.
Do a search for Duncan Hunter scandal. He may have a problem because Rep. Cunningham ties. Getting harder and harder to find anyone that does not have a slight taint to them.

You have just described, in tendentious language, nearly the entire purpose of electing legislators, that is to determine how government many should be raised and allocated. Prior to legislatures, the rulers simply decreed what taxes should be and how they should be sent. Since the rise of legislature we have elected folks to 'logroll' or argue and bargain over these matters.
I am not quite sure whether you are proposing anarchy or absolutism, but I am not a customer for either.
'many' = 'money'. Sorry.
Be still my beating heart...
James Garfield went from the House to the Presidency. And was shortly after assassinated. His VP Chester Arthur had never been elected to anything prior to becoming VP.
Grover Cleveland was the only Democratic President of that era and is the only President to serve two non-consecutive terms.
In a fashion Gerald Ford also went from the House to the Presidency.
