Rep.Duncan Hunter Exploring Presidential Run
Roger Hedgecock Show ^ | 29 OCTOBER 2006 | NEDRA PICKLER, Jimmy Vaentine

Posted on 10/29/2006 5:12:18 PM PST by radar101

A Mid-Sunday afternoon call comes to Roger & Team Hedgecock. A friend embedded in the district office of Congressman Duncan Hunter. Heads up for a news conference on Monday October 30th at 11am at the Broadway Pier. “Duncan will announce for higher office. He’ll seek a job that becomes vacant in 2008 at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

Duncan will apparently announce the formation of an “exploratory committee,” which will allow him to begin raising funds for a PA Avenue campaign. Formation of such a committee does not always result in an actual candidacy…A couple of GOP Senators in deep trouble with their re-election bids have formed such committees…a loss on home turf on November 7th would likely negate any potential for the Presidential bid. Duncan faces no such threat but many who have formed such committees in the past did not end up running…Let’s us state for the record that Duncan should, nay MUST, run!!

The call made our afternoon. At a time when our nation so desperately needs leadership, direction and a strong hand at the helm, Duncan’s potential candidacy is, in my view, a Godsend.

Do yourself a favor and stack Duncan up against the list of announced Presidential candidates on the Gop and Democratic side. See links below.

SOME BACKGROUND ON WHAT AN EXPLORATORY COMMITTEE IS ALL ABOUT

http://www.commondreams.org/pressreleases/Dec98/120498c.htm

Duncan’s bio may not include some personal references that we would like to make.

Duncan has stood strong for the Boy Scouts of America.

He has stood strong for the Mt. Soledad Veteran’s Memorial (instrumental in having it conveyed to the U.S. Department of Defense).

He’s stood strong for Charter Education.

He’s stood strong for American Defense. (he’s a U.S. Army (Ranger ) (Vietnam)vet and one of his sons is a U.S. Marine who fought at falluja - and frankly was pissed when the first assault on that city was called off by Washington meddlers)

He’s supported our men and women in uniform, not only as a member of the U.S. Congress, but as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

He’s stood tall for securing America’s Borders, having been instrumental in building the first ever stretch of fencing in the San Diego area.

He’s stood tall for Family Values, his family being the best evidence of his regard for God, Family and Country. He is a man of faith and his Christian values run deep and are openly professed.

He’s stood tall for the Second Amendment. He’s a decent (he’d say great) rifle shot, a hunter and an outdoorsman.

He’s stood tall for small business. One of his personal heroes is the guy who founded Tyler’s Taste of Texas, a small restaurant in El Cajon that now has chapters in Yuma and elsewhere.

He’s mostly a lousy dresser. Though he’s cleaned up a bit as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Somebody bought an iron for him.

He’s a humble guy. Our first association with Duncan goes back a decade. He’d arrive at KSDO radio for an interview on Roger’s radio show in a beat up station wagon driven by his then 70-something year old dad. No aides, no coat holders. Dad waited in the car (so he could hear and critique the radio interview).

He’s a man of humor and intellect.

He is direct. Just last week he issued a press release suggesting that Iraqi forces should be deployed to Baghdad to restore order there.

He reminds one of America. A pretty simple guy, an honest guy, a sincere guy, a man of faith, conviction intelligence and commitment. His friendship is a valued commodity.

I’ve been blessed because Duncan is my Congressman. I have been honored to cast my vote for him in every election he’s run since coming to California in 1991.

Thought you’d want to know.

Jimmy Valentine

As I finish my final two years as chairman of the Armed Services Committee . . "

A little presumptuous, maybe?

Hunter puts special interests ahead of the defense of the natio.

Open borders puts illegals ahead of the citizens. Your point is?

Probably McCain or maybe someone like Hagel or Giuliani.

Not that any of the aforementioned could stand being second on the ticket.

I'm liking this, thus far. His timing is good - when conservative grassrooters are at full attention.

I am not quite sure whether you are proposing anarchy or absolutism, but I am not a customer for either.

Neither am I, but many of the FReepers who are treating Duncan Hunter as the Second Coming are the same ones who are saying that the present Congress is utterly unacceptable because of its spending habits--and Duncan Hunter has played that game as much as it can be played, because he's willing to trade somebody else's pork-barrel waste for matters near and dear to his heart.

The disconnect, to put it mildly, is breath-taking.

Please find any member of Congress who has never voted for an appropriation bill which has included any appropriation at all for projects in his district. All you are saying is that Hunter has held pulic office. That is not totally disqualifying, you know!

You know how it is. If the candidate of choice is a third party candidate, then the disqualifying catch phrase is 'the candidate should have held an elected office'. If the candidate is a real conservative that DOES hold an elected office, then the disqualifying catch phrase is that 'he isn't perfect enough and that he is bound to have made a mistake, somewhere along the line in his career'.

Now, if having held an elected position is a bad thing in their eyes, what criteria do they want?

T'sk. Actually, it was not a grammatical error so much as a typo...I intended to type "you're" instead of "your."

That's perfectly understandable. Done it myself a few times. What's funny is when you realize you've typed a word you never even intended to type! lol

Hunter is a good man. He is everything that John SKerry could only dream of being.

Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), with bipartisan support, introduced legislation yesterday that would scuttle the deal; mandate that the owners of "critical infrastructure" in the United States, including ports, highways and power plants, be American; and demand that cargo entering U.S. ports be screened within six months of passage.

That bears repeating! Port security is VERY close to my heart too...

Agreed. If the president wants to outsource security, let him start with his secret service agents. /sarcasm

Bump.

No kidding. I would stack Hunter's Bronze Star up against Kerry's bogus Purple Hearts any day of the week. He has a son serving in Iraq right now.

And Kerry really stepped in it this week saying that "students need to study hard to get good jobs, or they would get stuck in Iraq."!?!!

Implying a host of demeaning pejoratives against our U.S. Services and Serviceman who have answered the call...volunteers not draftees....in defense of our country.

If your solution includes spending no money on national defense at all, yes that solution is off the table.

BUMP!

The RINOs are almost as bad as the RATs when it comes to underfunding, gutting, and unilaterally disarming the Defense of this country.

They are equally LIBERAL.

I think you must have misunderstood. Huinter has been elected to several 2 year terms as Chairman of the Committee. Under the rules, the current term is the last one he can be elected to, and he is now about to finish that term. His only 'presumption' is to presume that he will be alive for the next 2 months, and will not resign or be removed as chairman before Christmas. Not all that presumptious.

the same ones who are saying that the present Congress is utterly unacceptable because of its spending habits

The problem is with the failure to control total spending on less than necessary projects, not with an individual taking part in the legislative process.

From what I've seen of this man, he seems to be a man of integrity and guts. He is one of few GOP pols who shows leadership. Good luck to him!!

Oops, upon further reading, it is clear that Rep. Hunter is also presuming that he and the GOP majority will be elected next week, which is presumptuous I suppose, but these days all candidates make that presumption, both false humility and frank analysis of their prospects being politically unacceptable.
