Virginia U.S. Senate candidate James Webb yesterday delivered his strongest criticism of incumbent Sen. George Allen of the fall campaign, vigorously defending himself against Allen's charges that he wrote sex-laced passages in his fiction novels.
He called on voters to reject what he called the "smear tactics" of Allen and his campaign, who released excerpts Thursday from Webb's novels to the Drudge Report Web site and said the writings were lurid and inappropriate for a man seeking to serve in the Senate.
"The fish rots from the head down," Webb (D) said, referring to his belief that Allen (R) is responsible for his campaign staff's tactics and has now shown his true character. "Our government should no longer be in the hands of a group of unprincipled, small-minded, power-hungry character assassins."

now, his political activities where he openly insulted women while in a position of authority, like the whole gaffe about how girls only wanted to go to the Naval Academy because they are horny, that is an issue
two wrongs don't make a right
just because Webb's campaign is vile doesn't mean Allen should stoop to his level
he talks as if Allen wrote the books - and claimed Webb wrote them.
Mr Webb - YOU WROTE THIS STUFF.
I don't know about Scooter and Newt... but Lynn's book was tame in the extreme. A dem website found the worst thing in it and it was nothing. Stop believing everything Webb and the MSM tells you.
How is pointing out Webb's own words an Allen campaign "smear tactic?" If I write a post, and later another FReeper quotes my words back at me, that is not a smear. Those were my own words and I am responsible for them.
If Webb believes what he wrote was perfectly okay, he should stop screaming like a vampire exposed to light. If he doesn't think his words were okay, he needs to disavow them and apologize. So which is it?
Webb, like a typical Democrat, is trying to have it both ways.
Failing that, at least stop SPREADING everything Webb and the MSM tells you.
just because Webb's campaign is vile doesn't mean Allen should stoop to his level
Allen didn't stoop to Webb's level. He just quoted from his book. But as Ann Coulter reminds us, merely quoting a Democrat is enough to piss them off. Democrats don't like their own writing either.
I don't see any "defense" of the passage in which an adult male puts the penis of a small boy in his mouth in that excerpt of the WaPoo article.
All I see there is an attack on the messenger.
Meanwhile I don't recall him ever coming to Foley's defense when he was wrongly accused of being a child molester and hounded out of office by a partisan coordinated campaign together with the media. Stuff it, crybaby.
None of this has anything to do with 'Fields of Fire'. The main excerpt is from 'Lost Soldiers'. The Webb campaign keeps saying this, hoping the average person won't see the real texts at issue.
In this instance, "head down" is an unfortunate choice of words from the pedophile porn peddlar senator wannabe.
The media has only seized upon it in the last week but the story has been out there longer than this.
Meanwhile the Dems were in possession of the Foley IMs and sat on them until October. What makes that so absurd is that those same critics are saying that Republicans "knew" (they did NOT know about the IMs) and "did nothing" while the Democrats DID KNOW all along.
You signed up today to defend a smarmy democrat? I doubt you'll be around here for long. If you want to defend pedophiles maybe you should go back to DU.
On the other hand, a negative multiplied by a negative equals a positive.
Poor Webb can sure dish out the macaca but cries to mommy when his own vile words get served back up to him.
Lol....you sound like my younger sister. She always like to remind me of the time (she claims) I shot her with an arrow on purpose.
> just because Webb's campaign is vile doesn't mean Allen should stoop to his level <
In what sense is it "stooping" to point out writings of an opponent that have been in the open, on the public record so to speak, for many years? And is the information in any way false?
In any event, should the citizenry of the Commonwealth be deprived of this information? Should Webb's naughty prose be hidden from public view? Moreover, if the WaPo is too prudish to tell the voter about Webb's take on Asian pedophilic fellatio, what's wrong with the Drudge Report's having done so?
Methinks the Old Dominion's voters are amply qualified to sift the chaff from the wheat, and to decide whether Webb's strange writings should disqualify him from a post of high trust in the U.S. Senate.
And since Virginia most certainly ain't Hollywood or Manhattan, it ain't hard to predict how a majority of Virginia voters will view the issue.
Jim Webb admitted under oath that he was a member of the Cosmos Club. The Cosmos Club refused to allow Blacks membership and until 1988 they refused to allow women to become members..
He sure does have women problems. Someone should interview his first TWO wives.
Current wife is of Vietnamese extraction. Wonder how she likes the passages in his books about Asian women chopping up bananas with their private parts. Or where he calls them "Monkeyfaces".
That's okay. He was just experiencing "real life."
Or, is it: "It was tolerated in that culture at the time"?
Whatever it was. Webb isn't responsible for any of it.
We'll have to get the latest excuse from Webb's MommyStreamMedia.
